So, imagine the following happened.
Obito was rescued by Madara as in the manga and rushed to help Kakashi and Rin as well.
However, let's say in this scenario he arrives when both of them are alive and starts fighting alongside them. Rin dies, but because of some mist ninja's attack and not Chidori. Obito is heart-broken, but does not succumb to his grief and doesn't return to Madara - instead, he goes back with Kakashi to Konoha.
How do you think Obito would have developed in this case? Would he become as powerful as he is now? Would he become famous for his abilities among the other nations? Maybe he would even be appointed Hokage after Minato? Would his rivalry with Kakashi continue in a friendly way, like Kakashi and Guy, or would they become cold towards each other?
Also, imagine how much would be different - Naruto wouldn't have become a jinchuuriki, his parents would not die and maybe even Uchiha wouldn't rebel (Minato claimed that maybe he would have stopped them from rebellion in a friendly way if he was alive at that point).
