meh your ideas will have a minimal impact.
While a politicians benifits should certainly be cut(because if they get a term or 2 in, they are set for life), it shouldnt be removed.
It should be lowered, to the point where the only real benefit of being on power, is the ability to help your people. It should be high enough, though that the person, will not lose a lot of money, just for trying to help their people.(so like the average middle class income would be a good step)
What should be done, though, is since the president, and the senate, think obama care is SO AWESOME, they should be forced to be on it.(all the ones who voted for it, at least)
another possible idea, would be the politicians, would have to pay money equaivalent to the national debt.
so for instance. Say the country earns 3 trillion, and is in debt 18 trillion. The debt is 6 times the income, and growing. The interest is at 25% rate per year.(so 4.25 trillion per year)
The politician in favor of spending more, should have his pay check go directly to the government, and come out the same as the government.
(so he earns 300,000 a year, but would own 1,800,000, and have to pay 425,000 a year)
This would only be a teaching lesson, to show how dumb it is to just sit there in debt and spend money he doesnt have.
The debt is at a point where it can still be paid off. However to the massive spending problem, it will take a bit of sacrifice and a person with some backbone, to begin to pay it off.
The above numbers were made up from the top of my head. Though the real numbers are similar, i did not feel like takeing the time to find them.
