Pain? He was in a flashback. They were showing how Nagato killed Hanzo.

Remember how the Amegakure ninja told Jiraiya that Pain wiped out Hanzo and all his minions, family members, etc.? This was just Hanzo remembering back to that scene.

The reason Hanzo flashed back is becuase Mifune said there was some key thing Hanzo wasn't realizing, and the last time Hanzo heard that was against Pain - because he didn't understand the power of the Rinnegan.

Lol don't be so disappointed. I'm sure Kabuto revived Nagato with the Edo Tensei, so he'll show up at some point.

Negato has many roles in the manga/anime, He was the holder of the Rinningan until Madara took it back, Summoner of the deamon statue and user of the phantom dragon juitsu that extracted the tailed beast chakra from a jinjuriki and put it into the demon statue. Also there was Negatos role of being synced with the demon staute later on but since he is gone its no longer viable. Also as the person partialy responseiable for the destruction of the leaf village, and killing Jirya.
