Probably not. Though the sand should melt into glass with enough heat. So, hot molten glass on your skin, that would still hurt? Would have been cool to see Gaara's sand melt into glass, actually, but Kishi don't care.

I'm sure Gaara's sand has been close enough to those flames that it should have been turnt to glass. Amateratsu is shit basically. Hot as the sun my ass.
