Energy from light:

For those who don't know color theory it basically works like this. The colors we see are the colors of visible light that are reflected off a surface (ex red things reflect red light). This color of light is determined by the wavelength of light with the range of violet to red being about 400-700 nano meters. Things that are black appear that way because they absorb all the visible light. Now that the science is out of the way my theory...

Since the flames of amaterasu are black we can determine that it absorbs all the wavelengths of light between about 400 and 700 nano meters. Furthermore, since the flames are self sustaining (will burn until they have destroyed the target or the user puts them out and the user doesn't have to maintain them once they are brought into existence) they must get their energy from somewhere. At first, probably like most, I assumed they gained their energy from what they destroyed but now I don't think that's the case. That is what normal flames do to maintain their energy and this wouldn't explain how the amaterasu is so much hotter than the average flame.

I believe that the flames of amaterasu maintain their energy by absorbing the energy from light emitted by the sun. We already know that light can generate energy (solar powered electricity) and that (based on my color theory logic) the amaterasu absorbs visible light. But, it is plausible that the flames absorb all wavelengths of light (from gamma waves, less than one nano meter wavelength, to microwaves, several meters of wavelength). Furthermore, since the sun is constantly showering us with all these different types of light radiation. I believe that the flames of amaterasu absorb the energy from this light in an extremely efficient way in order to produce huge amounts of heat and sustain themselves. (in laymen;s terms i guess you could say its super charged solar power).

Anyway this is my first attempt at a full theory let me know what you think

Soooo it's a theory on why Amaterasu is black?

Nice theory, I have a question though..
According to the theory it would mean that Amaterasu can work only under sunlight.. How would you explain when Itachi uses it in the belly of the toad to burn through it?? Thanks..

Soooo it's a theory on why Amaterasu is black?

It's also a theory on how Amaterasu gets its strength from, and retroactively determines its weakness: shadow.

Does this mean Amaterasu cannot sustain itself in complete darkness? It's too much of a stretch to imagine so. Amaterasu still works by burning anything it touches in its pathway as fuel. Will it be less effective? Definitely. Regular fire has a hard time passing over water to reach another object to burn as fuel, so I imagine Amaterasu works the same way, were we to imagine its weakness being complete darkness.

However, obtaining complete darkness is almost like obtaining Absolute Zero Kelvin temperatures: nigh impossible, though not difficult for Naruto Lore. I believe there is a couple jutsu derived in Naruto Lore that gives the user complete darkness. We haven't seen Amaterasu perform in shadow before, if memory serves.

it in the belly of the toad to burn through it??

Perhaps because there was light even inside his belly or Itachi used Katon to produce light first.

You can't combine science to people who do things which are not scientific. They use their energy to do amaterasu that is why over usage of it makes the user weak and leads to blindness by the stress it causes to the eye

That is exactly why its fun to try and explain, plus it's probably not shot out of the eye the eye probably just creates the target

and special relativity tells us that in the real world time, mass and length are all distorted as we approach the speed of light but that hardly makes any sense and we still try to explain that

What do you mean? There's lots of science in Naruto! The way in which jutsu is derived and created is through science. The ways in which Orochimaru discovers jutsu is through scientific measures. The entire medical corps is derived from science, albeit from more primitive, alchemical means.

visible light is still radiating inside the toads stomach as they could see, doesn't have to be sunlight exclusively though that would be the most powerful. also many types of light radiation could probably pass through the stomach

Hmm, I think it's simply because they're said to be the flames of hell.
Amaterasu just teleports them to the narutoverse.

thanks for pointing out the pitch black idea... itachi did say that all jutsu have a weekness. But there still could be different types of light radistion while it appeared ptch black to the human eye

Are you RETARDED?
It's an anime it's DRAWN ON A PIECE OF PAPER

Hoo boy...

Naruto Lore trumps how a pen and paper draws it, for drawn creations have no bearing on what its use is and how it works...
