Well technically, Mokuton is a bloodline limit and Senju descend from Ashura meaning Mokuton comes from Ashura's DNA. Furthermore, Ashura used TSB meaning he had the ability to combine two or more elements.

And DMS Kakashi proved that a person's chakra contains their KKG, without Obito he wouldn't have been able to use Kamui phasing or Susano'o. So Hashirama having Ashura's chakra means he had Ashura's abilities.
