Rules only the living can be a Tail Beast Host. Edo do not qualify.

The gedo mazo was used to bind the tailed beasts in those edos.
The gedo mazo is now the Juubi so Madara cant use the same method to become a jinchuriki he has to use the traditional method which requires a real body.

It was stated that a dead body is unable to be a Jinchuuriki & only a living body can

The six paths of tobi didn't have the bijuu sealed in them.. the bijuu's were in gedou mazou and their chakra was channeled through the six paths rods...
And if you were a jinchuuriki before dead, you're not a jinchuuriki when alive.. when you die the bijuu dies.. (or you die because the bijuu is extracted)

The Bijuu were sealed into their previous Jinchuurikis.
My theory is two parts on that.
1. Since the Jinchuuriki harvested that particular Bijuu for most of their life, they resonated best with that one than they would if they were to switch Bijuus. That is why Tobi used previous Jinchuuriki with the tailed beasts they hosted in life.
Or this could have merely been for us readers. I mean if Yugito just busted out the five-tail transformation, us readers woulda been like "wtf??"
2. They weren't FULLY sealed into the Jinchuuriki. The chakra stakes were just a temporary way to bind the power of the Bijuu into the Jinchuuriki.
In order to be a "true" Jinchuuriki, you probably have to be alive.
