Naruto saved Sasuke from Orochimaru's minions thanks to his use of KCM. They continued missions as team 7 and shared Sasuke's goal to fight Itachi together. On their mission to find the missing nin, Naruto and Sasuke encounter the wanted Uchiha in a field nearby the forrest. Due to their young age, Itachi has no problem in fighting both of Kakashi's students. His younger brother is rendered to the floor thanks to Tsukuyomi, Naruto suffers a humiliating defeat and Sakura gets stabbed with a Kunai, unable to move and witnessing his comrades fall, Sasuke awakens his Mangekyo Sharingan. Thankfully however, Kakashi comes to their rescue as Itachi leaves.
After training with Kakashi and Kurenai, Sasuke ends up deserting Konoha to pursue his own ambitions. He wants to solely take revenge on Itachi for what he did to Naruto and the Uchiha clan, Naruto realizes what Sasuke has done and vows to find him and save him again. On his journey, Sasuke befriends a young Uzumaki girl who introduces him to Orochimaru. After 3 years under his training, Sasuke secretly abandons Orochimaru in his pursuit of revenge and takes Karin with him. Years of dedication he gave would be put to the test when Sasuke finally confronts his older brother.
The day had come, when both brothers would face each other, both willing to sacrifice so much for a goal that is seemingly meaningless in the face of death. Their blood ensured they would meet again, their bond ensured they would fight. What was once seen a bond of love is now deemed as a bond of hatred. As they fight under the lightning clouds, their convictions are tested. Ninjutsu after ninjutsu, Sasuke seems unable to hurt Itachi but eventually the light breaks through. The young Uchiha prodigy wins his battle against his older brother and eventually gains the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan.
After hearing about Itachi's death, Obito contacts Sasuke and tries to steer him towards the path of darkness by making him join Akatsuki and revealing Itachi's story. The young Uchiha experiences a moment of self-realization after befriending Nagato and decides to settle with them and Karin. During Nagato's invasion of Konoha, Sasuke watches from a far with Obito as Naruto fights the 6 paths of Pain. When Naruto finally wins, Sasuke vows to get as strong as him and to continue Nagato's legacy with Obito's guidance. He then finds out what Obito was planning all along with Nagato's Rinnegan and decides to fight him. After a long battle to the death Sasuke eventually wins and becomes Obito's successor as the leader of Akatsuki, causing Deidara and Oro to flee in the process. It's now him against the world, his newly-found will against Naruto's lifelong promise. As the new leader his aim is to attack every village and unite them with the bijuu's power.

They meet, they clash but cease midway. The attack didn't go according to plan after Sakura had intervened in the midst of their battle. A glance that brought Sasuke to doubt himself, and experience a forgotten desire for a love he once knew, Sakura's eyes, reminiscent of Jade, had been the cause of his distraction. Love was Sasuke's weakness but weaknesses never stopped the Uchiha from attaining power, his hatred for Konoha fuelled his rejection for the girl he once deemed worthy as a bride. His hatred brings him back to his senses and allows him to escape from the chaos he ignited.
Reflecting on the recent turn of events, Sasuke decides to temporarily entrust Karin with Akatsuki while he seeks Orochimaru with Juugo and Suigetsu. During his journey, Deidara decides to attack Konoha on his own after leaving Akatsuki, what Sasuke doesn't know is that Orochimaru is working with the ex-Akatsuki member. Deidara eventually attacks Konoha with Orochimaru's help leading to a fight with Naruto. After multiple failures with Naruto's defeat, Deidara decides to use himself as a suicide bomber however Naruto saves the village by taking Deidara as far as possible thanks to his speed feats. Orochimaru manages to escape thanks to Deidara's efforts. As Sasuke continues to search for Oro, Kabuto finds him and guides him to another one of their hideouts. They eventually meet with Orochimaru and decide to attack every village affiliated with Konoha.
Orochimaru and Kabuto decide to attack the villages with the help of Edos and an army of criminals but Sasuke is against the idea, instead he would rather use Akatsuki's resources. Their disagreement causes Kabuto to conspire behind Sasuke's back after finding out about his possession over the bijuus.
Kabuto summons Madara via Edo but quickly realizes the mistake he has done in attempting to control the dead. Madara is free of Edo tensei's control and proceeds to initiate his genocide on the shinobi world with Kabuto's assistance. In search of a real body, Madara is told about Sasuke's potential and plans on using him for Rinne Tensei.
Sasuke and Orochimaru find out about what Kabuto has done after the Gedo's disappearance, they are aware of their sudden lack of resources for world domination, they decide to summon the 4 Hokages as help. In the midst of their preparation, Sasuke is told about Naruto's absence from Konoha thanks to an Akatsuki spy. This is the perfect opportunity for him to exert his brother's revenge on Danzo and so he does. After swiftly killing Hokage and destroying the village monuments, Sasuke successfully sends a message to the people of Konoha, "pick a side, it's either me or them, and be prepared, for the worst is yet to come."

The very meaning of his existence came into question, what was the point of living if all his actions were in vain. Did he fulfill his own ambitions or that of a higher power like Madara ? Distraught from what he was facing, Sasuke was starting to lose sight of himself as Madara revealed his past. Surprisingly enough, Madara's mention of the word "brother" was enough to bring Sasuke back to his senses. After hearing what he had done to Izuna and how far he had gotten with Hashirama, Sasuke lost all respect for the god he momentarily considered unstoppable. He was reminded of his own strength thanks to the hatred he bared since childhood, the very same hatred that evolved into his will, a will capable of surpassing Madara's. Sasuke has witnessed the power of hatred with his own eyes and retains his conviction. He intends on fighting both Madara and Naruto.

He managed to find Danzo's body and kidnap Karin from the Akatsuki hideout, presenting Madara with an alternative method of resurrection. Karin would be used as a medium for the Rinnegan's power. Sasuke is in shock yet again, as Madara has proven to be more cunning that he could possibly imagine. As soon as the Rinnegan had been transplanted, Madara used her to carry out his fight thanks to Shisui's eye. After defeating the Hokages and binding the bijuus with her chains, the moment of her purpose arose, she proceeded to cast the Rinne Tensei seal. Sasuke cannot believe what he's seeing, as Karin's red hair turns white, a surge of emotions begin to take over the young Uchiha like the currents of a storm. His rage grows to a level never seen before as he witnesses her corpse plummet to the floor, the very hatred he bears can no longer remain under control. Sasuke's eye power grows beyond what has previously been witnessed. Soon after Karin's death, his rage allows the Uchiha prodigy to awaken a new Susanoo, one capable of matching Madara's. The Sharingan's abilities are said to reflect the emotions of its user, because of Karin's death, Sasuke's rage had allowed him to not only develop a new Susanoo but also develop 7 more of them. Filled with guilt and torment, Sasuke is willing to sacrifice his life if it means dying by Madara's hand.
Madara re-gained his body and retrieved his eyes from Karin's corpse. As the new Sage of Six Paths he proceeded to swiftly deal with the 4 Hokages and re-gain ownership of the Gedo. His remaining opponents, Orochimaru and Sasuke were prepared to fight. Sasuke outclassed Madara with every Mangekyo jutsu and had managed to inflict fatal wounds upon him, but the Rinnegan would prove to be too powerful to face. Using the extraordinary power of his Susanoos, Sasuke was able to counter all 6 paths including the Human Path, but despite his best efforts the Deva path had proven to be too overwhelming. As a snake and the weakest foe, Orochimaru successfully planned his escape when Madara distracted Sasuke with falling meteorites.
Sasuke was left alone facing a battle he could never win, it became clear to him as he found himself on his knees. After having his ribs broken from Shinra Tensei, Sasuke continued to fight, seeking his last chance of redemption but he wasn't strong enough. Now lying on Karin's corpse, filled with regret of how he treated her and how treated everyone in his life, the hatred he once embraced had ceased to grow. Madara's fight was his only chance of redemption but he failed, Sasuke was aware that he'd be joining her in the next world once the battle is over, he had accepted defeat.
As Madara was about to cast his finishing move, a bright light appeared, Naruto found himself standing over Sasuke protecting his friend as he always promised. The shinobi alliance have also caught up and are willing to fight Madara together. Amused by their actions, Madara releases a number of meteorites large enough to engulf the skies. He then proceeds to extract Kurama from Naruto and summon the Shinjuu. Somehow, the brief moment of hope had led to a moment of epic failure, the two children of prophecy were now taking their last breaths.
As they laid dying, Naruto and Sasuke found themselves awake in an unfamiliar surrounding, a plane of existence unlike any world they've seen before. Could it be the after life or is it simply just a dream ? Facing them, a white figure appeared with a long beard, two devil's horns and a Rinnegan similar to Madara's. The man in front of them was the Sage of Six Paths; a god considered a myth by so many was now speaking to them in front of their very eyes. When talking to Sasuke, he wanted to know what the young Uchiha thought of his life up to the moment he died, Sasuke responded in a calm manner as he always does. But something in his voice had changed, he was no longer angry, he had accepted his past and regretted his future. His hatred is what blinded him from the truth, the people around him, the same people he threatened to kill were the ones that made him stronger. Although hate was a powerful tool, it eventually brought him to a meaningless life of pity and self-resentment, his love for Karin and Sakura was constantly rejected for his desire for power. Asked what he would do if he could go back in time, Sasuke responded by saying he would give Karin the life she deserved and Sakura the love she desired.
