This is the story of a girl named Claire. Her whole life, she seemed happy… She seemed safe. Her mother always protected her and she couldn’t wish for anything better. She went to a normal high school and had normal friends. However, she was still blind to her true identity. Everything she ever had, every memory she ever made was all just a lie. From the time she first got her ears pierced, to when she thought it’d be a good idea to go to a party with a group of friends without her mom knowing. Memories she never wanted to give up. But, she cannot accept her identity.

CHAPTER 1: Found

“Mom” Claire shouted from the other side of the 2 bedroom apartment. “Mom!” she continued to walk around the small house looking for her mother. After checking the bathrooms and closets, her mother was a binge drinker and would sometimes pass out in those places, she gave up and went to the kitchen to get a snack. She opened the fridge to find that it was empty, except for a bag specifically marked “CLAIRE, DO NOT TOUCH”. However, there was always a loophole… Claire stuck her face in the fridge and grabbed the bag with teeth then closed the fridge door.

Suddenly, the apartment’s front door slammed shut and the sound of heels clicked on the floorboard. Claire dropped the bag on the table and attempted to make it to the couch before her mother reached the living room. She jolted out the small kitchen doorway and flung herself over the couch back onto the cushion, but her mom noticed her flying in the air to the couch as soon as she entered the room.

“Claire… What the hell?” she asked, she carried the 3 grocery bags she had in her hands to the kitchen and set them on the table. Then, there was a sigh of disappointment. “Claire, come here…” Claire got up from the couch and dragged herself into the kitchen again.

“What is it mother? Do you need assistance packing away the canned goods?” Claire said in an attempt to distract her mom from the problem at hand. Then, her mother lifted the bag up that Claire forgot to put back and began her rant.

“Listen, I know there was no food in the house at the moment… But you need to be patient, I’m trying really hard right now to make sure that we are both healthy and happy. You trying to sneak food that I’m saving making it harder” Claire’s head fell downward in shame and her mother notice, so she handed Claire the bag. “It was for you anyways”

Claire grabbed the bag and opened it to find a box of large fries, her stomach growled in anticipation of the taste. “Oh my god, I love you mom!” she ran and hugged her tight then proceeded to eating the fries in a hurry. Her mother watched with a gleaming smile to see her daughter satisfied.

“By the way mom” Claire said in between stuffing the fries in her mouth, “There is this party going on and my friends want me to come to be the… uh… designated driver. So can I pretty, pretty, pretty please go with them?” The gleaming smile suddenly turned into fright.

“Claire, you know how I feel about you going to parties. The answer is no”
“Come on!” she whined.
“No!” her mother pick up her purse and began heading towards the door.
“Please!”
“Again, no!” she went into the apartment building’s corridor, “Claire, I’ll be back at ten o’clock, I want to see you here, in the living room, and not at the party! Is that clear?”
“Yes…”
“Where do I want to see you?”
“In the living room…” then her mother shut the door. “at ten o’clock” Claire rushed into her room and picked up her phone to call her best friend, Milayna.

“Hey, girl!” Milayna’s voice echoed from the phone’s speakers.
“Hey!” Claire said while drawing out the greeting. “Milayna… You’re going to that party tonight right?”
“Yeah, you?”
“Yeah… But, I need a ride there. Can you and Jenna come pick me up?”
“Sure, we’ll be there in an hour. Be ready!” Milayna said, then hung up. Claire thought to herself, She said to be in the living room at ten… I’ll just make a quick stop, then be back before mom is home.

------------------------------------------
An hour passed and Claire was ready to leave. She heard the car pull up in front of the building, ran downstairs, and jumped into the brown jeep. The girls in front looked back at her.

“Ready to go?” Jenna asked. Jenna was Claire’s other best friend, she originally lived in New York, but moved to Minnesota after her father died and her mother was transferred to a different company here when Jenna was five and they both just went from there. Milayna was born in Baghdad, but she grew up in Minnesota with Claire since they were both three.

“Of course!” Claire shouted, and the girls drove off down the street, the wind pushes their hairs back. They began cheering as if they were the happiest people in the whole world, or at least on the block. The streets were empty, so they ran a few red lights since the police isn’t really active in their part of town. Then, they all heard it, the sound of the music from the party began to grow louder and louder as they got closer.

Jenna pulled up in front of the house and told Claire and Milayna to get out so she can go find a spot to park in. So, Milayna and Claire headed towards the jumping building.

As they grew closer and closer, their excitement began to rise. Finally, Milayna opened the door and it seemed as if the golden gates were welcoming them. They entered the house and already, they wanted to go dance and ran to the dance living room.

In the livingroom, there were guys passed out half naked on the chairs, one was laid across the ping-pong table with the phrase “PARTY GOD” painted down his chest. Couples were making out on the steps, and a few were throwing up in the kitchen sink, then screaming a battle cry as if they just accomplished something huge.
“Hey, Milayna?” Claire said.
“Hm?” she responded.
“Let’s go dance” Claire was trying to get her mind off of the disgusting sights and just have some fun, so they began dancing in the middle of the room. Then, some boy walked up to them and began to rubbed his hand on Milayna’s chocolate skin, flirtatiously. They began making out in front of Claire in a frisky manner. Claire was trying to ignore it, but she just had to say something.

“So, uh… Who is this?” she said trying not to sound rude. Milayna disconnected her lips from the boy’s.
“Oh! This is Devin” she said while gesturing towards him. He had short spiky hair and a very bad tan. Even though he had muscles, Claire was shocked that Milayna would go for such a guy. “We met the other day at the supermarket and things just took off from there” Devin nodded and began kissing her again.

“Milayna, you just met the guy and your kissing him like he’s your husband?”
“Chill out, Claire.” Milayna said while Devin began attempting to pull her upstairs, she eventually went with him and left Claire alone in the middle of the dancefloor. Then, she noticed people heading towards the basement and followed some random girl down there to see what was going on.

Suddenly, her nose was filled with smoke and she began coughing loudly, it could everyones attention.
“She seems new” the man in the middle said.
“Yea” the man next to him said, “Hey, girl” Claire was trying to ignore them and continued looking around, but he got up and rushed to her. Then, he grabbed her by the arm and said, “Why don’t you come sit next to daddy?”
She tried to pull him off of her, but he was too strong. He sat her down, and her head began to feel light. The man noticed.
“Ah… She’s starting to feel the affects” the man in the middle said.
“W-what affects?” Claire asked, “What’s happening to me?”
"Oh, you weren’t suppose to be here. You just inhaled high toxins that only we can handle, but, since you’re new, your body is rejecting it which is going to cause you to die…” Claire began hyperventilating and nearly started crying, but the man began patting her back, forcing her forward, “I’m just kidding! You’re just getting high” and the men began laughing at Claire’s reaction.

Claire wanted to get up and leave, but she felt tired and nauseous, so she stayed. More and more of the smoke filled her nose and her vision began to fade. As she slowly began to fall asleep, she heard sirens approaching.
“Shit!” the man in the middle shouted, he turned to the man next to him, “Get this shit outta here!” but it was too late, the police knocked down the basement door and saw them all on the couch in front of the lit marijuana. They rushed downstairs and arrested them all.

When Claire got put in the car, she noticed Milayna getting pulled in the same car as me. Her bra was showing a little and her hair looked ridiculous so she knew what Milayna did. They put her in the same car as me. She was breathing hard and then looked to me.

“Claire, you look a mess!” she shouted.
“You should be the last one talking” Claire shouted back, but she was slurring together her words. Then, everything went black.
When Claire woke back up, she was in a cell in front of a police officers desk. She looked around to see that no one was there, and called for the officers attention.
“Hey, Mister? What happened to everyone?” she asked.
“You’re friends all got picked up by their parents, and the men were taken to state prison” he said, “What in the world were you doing with a bunch of grown men? A young lady like you doesn’t need to be with that crowd” he turned away so I sat down.

"Did you call my mother?"
"Actually, there was an issue so we got someone else to go retrieve her”
“Oh, alright” Claire laid back on the prison bench for about ten minutes, then the front door busted open with the sound of aggressive heel clicking. Claire thought it was her mother, but it was a lady with an FBI badge on his jacket. She entered the cell, kneeled in front of Claire, and began to speak.
“Hello, Claire. I’m FBI Agent Karen Welch, and I have some bad news about your mother”
“Oh no, did she pass out again? I’m trying to encourage her to stop drinking, but she keeps relapsing” Claire said, thinking that this was about her mother’s drinking problem.
“No… It’s not about Melissa’s drinking problem”
“Then what happened to my mom?” Claire was getting frightened by the woman’s tone.
"That’s the thing” Karen grabbed Claire’s hand, “Claire… Melissa Washington… Is not your mother” Suddenly, it seemed as if the whole world crumbled underneath Claire’s feet. She felt so many mixed emotions, and couldn’t handle the pressure.

“No… I’m sorry, but you’re wrong. I understand you’re an FBI Agent and all, but she is my mother”
“No, Claire. You’re real mother is here” Karen said while gesturing to a blonde haired woman. “This is Emila Arlington, you’re real mother” Claire looked up with tears drowning her eyes.
“Destiny?...” She seemed shocked and was crying as well.
“M-mom?” Claire hesitantly said. The women ran up to her and hugged her tightly.
