It's a pentagon with symbols for the elements and Yin and Yang in the middle. Ones with it light up have those elements, it's pretty straight forward.

You dont need yin to cast genjutsu.

I don't see how jt doesn't make sense. Notice how the older characters have more elements, it's because they've had more time to practice jutsu, this aligns with what Kishi previously said about jonins having 2 or 3 elements.

But is not about mastering matters overall, like this if you happen having fire elements in your chakra, hinata for example, although you are not mastering a large scale katon dont mean that you cant create a small as lighter fire or spit some small fire from you mouth to light a candle.

Even in our world exist very unlogical explaination person like having a magnet on their body, can walk on fire, can cried a glass etc.
