The answer: Visual eye jutsu.
This isn't just the sharingan, the rinnegan and the sharingan are both equal offenders. Let's analyse the problems:
Power levels are ridiculously high & the manga is just laser beams and god statues
There are few giant death machines in the Naruto manga that aren't controlled by a Sharingan or a Rinnegan.
Susanoo, Juubi, Gedo Mazu, The 9 tails, Madara HIMSELF. All are made obnoxiously overpowered and some might argue that the sheer size and power of these things have made the manga more boring. Also the fact that you need a Sharingan or a Rinnegan to even control one of these things has basically made the majority of the Kishi's characters irrelevant, any nobody blessed with a sharingan can control the 9 tails!? :').

Characters don't earn their own powers.
Sasuke, Kakashi, Madara, Tobi, Itachi and Nagato all did not earn their current visual jutsu. The concept of eye swapping is annoying and the fact that Kishimoto makes it so frequent and easy is pathetic. Also rinnegan just DOESN'T GO AWAY.
Characters like Itachi and Kakashi's strength cannot be measured.
This isn't just Itachi even though he is the prime example of this, I know many people love him but the fact that he is so god-tier and overpowered is because Kishimoto never limited his Sharingan genjutsu. Tsukiyomi, Yata Mirror, Susanoo, Amateresu, Izanami- they're all such ambiguous abilities that Kishimoto used often but never really what they are and aren't capable of. Kamui is a very annoying introduction to the manga too- when Kakashi used Kamui on Deidara all those years back I thought it was a cool new jutsu but now with a bit of added chakra people are convinced that kamui can defeat anything!? Kyuubi cloak or not, Kakashi cannot kamui the goddamn Juubi. But I see why people would say this considering Kishimoto has introducing such a dominant, unstoppable cheat jutsu- and now that it has no limits it's just as good as saying Kakashi and his kamui are now the strongest ninja around. (this is not true) (i shouldnt have to say this lol)
Plot no Jutsu
Visual jutsu users tend to be able shift the plot in their favour with such annoying, unexplained abilities and writer preference. A perfect susanoo is bullsh*t, the very idea of Shisui's jutsu is RIDICULOUS and do not even get me started on izanami.
Do not do it. It is a deus ex machina. I will destroy you in that debate.

Obviously Kishimoto tells us that Itachi has weak stamina, Nagato's lifespan goes down and Shisui can only use the jutsu every 10 years or so but from a writing standpoint- these jutsu are flawless. How many times HAVE you seen Itachi's visual prowess fail him due to his stamina? When hasn't Edo Madara's infinite susanoo and Uchiha abilities not made him in control? Nagato loses his lifespan by using Shinra Tensei but he was going to die anyway! His shinra tensei and other rinnegan abilities were unstoppable when you bring the plot into it. The same goes for Tobi, the same goes for Kakashi and the same goes for Itachi.
The Byakugan is fine, Kishi established 1 ability of the Byakugan and although it's strong it's very balanced and doesn't interfere with the manga like Sharingan and Rinnegan have. Take note RinneSharigan. Also, I am not biased or a 'visual jutsu hater' (lol) Tobi, one of my favourite characters in the entire manga has both a sharingan AND a rinnegan, I know right? I'm such a hypocrite.
I personally think that visual prowess have caused all of the flaws in this manga. Other than Sakura. Sakura is not sharingan's fault. Thanks for reading.
