nah wiki is full of bs also, Kishimoto never said anything about her only about Naruto's children and why he named them like this.

i don't see the problem, Naruto was named after some fish paste, it's funny especially with Sasuke loving tomatoes so much :p

Edit it then. Xd All the Saiyans were named after vegetables. Better than being named after undergarments anyway ( bloomer being bulma) . :p

By the way I just noticed a character Kinoko Sarada ( mushroom salad. U_U) in Dr slump. Wasn't that too one of the series Kishi mentioned as the ones he liked in an interview?

I believe guy and lees spirit of youth thing is from this thing that Japanese samurai used to do.
And also know that the face on Madaras sussano is suppose to be one of demon spirits called a Tengu, not sure if this is relevant but eh...

Kurama was inspired from the song :WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY

Or the name of the Fox Demon from Yuyu Hakusho. Another manga/anime that ran on Shonen Jump back in the day.

I was under the impression that chakra just replaced the word "chi/ki" in the NV. Since Dragon Ball, Yuyu Hakusho and other shonen manga use chi/ki as the internal energy that characters use.

Chi is real though, its just that in DBZ the way it worked was dramatised.

Sakura is probably included in Shintoism as well, Sasuke seems to be Ningi no Mikoto and Sakura seems to be the blossom princess, Konohana-sakuya hime.

Not really an "inspiration", but it is a notable trope Kishi sort of fed into...

"The Black Electric Guy"
You have Ay, Bee, 3rd Raikage, Darui, Omoi in the NV

In other media though you have

DC

Black Lightning

Lighting (Black Lightning's daughter)

Static

Jakeem Thunder

Black Vulcan/Juice

Coldcast

Aqualad (Jackson)

Marvel

Storm

Azari (Storm and T'Challa's son)

Miles Morales (his venom blast)

Electro (Jamie Foxx in TASM2)

Image

Baal Hadad

Boom comics

Volt

It's so common place now that Boom comics even makes fun of it.

More material to note.

This image appears a lot with Naruto and Sasuke. In manga art, the newest ending and in Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 3.

The creatures behind Naruto and Sasuke are Fujin and Raijin, the gods of Wind (Fujin/Naruto) and Lightning (Raijin) in Japanese mythology.

There's the Shinigami Mask of the Uzumaki Clan which resembles a Hannya mask.

Was doing research on Dragons and came across the story of "Kojiki". In it, the Shinto God Susanno (brother of the gods Amaterasu and Tsukiyomi) did battle and slayed an Eigthed Headed Dragon monster called the Yamata No Orochi.

We saw this adapted in Naruto with Itachi's Susanno slayed Orochimau in his Yamata no Jutsu (transcending snake and becoming a Dragon God) form. Dat Kishi. He may have come up short with character development for the mains and supporting characters but he could weave a good tale.

Found another one, that was foreshadowed in the manga.

Asura and Indra. We know these are the names of Hagoromo's sons and the first Incarnations of Naruto, Hashirama + Sasuke and Madra.

In mythology/Buddhism/Hindusim:
Indra is the god of war, storms. He wields a lightning bolts. Indra is a Deva; God or shining one.

Asuras have 3 faces and either 4 or 6 arms. There are many kinds of Asuras and they represent different things. The Asura normally do battle with the Devas over things. Depending on the Veda, the Asura will either be celestial or demonic beings.

Brah,

That action sequence is inspired by a Bruce Lee movie if I remember correctly. So your example itself is copied from another place. I would link if I could remember where I had seen all three at the same place. But google may help you.

Kishi's inspiration are endless...

He used Japanese maythology and folk lore endlessly. That alone would take ages to find and list.

Then Sasuke has been a stock name for ninjas for like 110 years at least. And Sasuke Sarutobi too. The ninja tricks of shadow clones, fire /water jutsu, flying nins etc is old too. Some of them can be found in mangas from 60s. Or old animes.

Drunken fist is a martial art style.

The Jubbi tree is similar to the Vampire tree of Japanese tales.

Mt Kurama situated near Kyoto is related with Tengu ( susano looks like Tengu) . This place is known for being founding place of Reiki healing energy.( chakra healing) and it's famours for it's fire festival.

Nara area is known for it's dears...

.... I don't remember more at the moment.

Other popular ninja series from Super Sentai.

Kakuranger (1994) is a ninja epic.

Hurricanger (2002): is part ninjas are awesome, part spoof, with a dash of kabuki theater.

I hope not... Unless you think Itachi was marrying Sasuke...It's just a playful personal gesture between the brothers that Sasuke adopted in his turn due to it's significance to himself.

It is a playful gesture/Itachi's way of apology, but I couldn't help noting the similarities to the wedding ritual XD.

I can't believe I didn't add this one earlier. Naruto and the Chinese Zodiac.

I wish Kishi had done more with the zodiac concept. With all the other things he stuffed into to the NV, having shinobi who represent some sort of 'order of the zodiac' would've been cool. Digimon did something like this back with their season Tamers.

And if you look at certain characters in the NV, they're already represent the zodiac animal motifs.

Tiger - Guy
Rabbit - Kaguya and or Hinata
Dragon - Kabuto
Snake - Orochimaru
Horse - Han
Ram
Monkey - Hiruzen/Sarutobi clan
Rooster
Dog - Kiba
Boar - Akimichi Clan member
Rat
Ox
Cat - Some Uchiha clan member, since they already have dealings with cats.
