Michael Fassbender of all people recently let slip that these could actually be a new breed of aliens called Neomorphs, who have mutated thanks to the accelerant - or, in layman's terms, 'gross black goo' - that leaks from their mouths.

I've been catching up on the Alien franchise. I knew what is what about and I watched Prometheus when it was released, on top of AvP 1 & 2, though I didn't know it was a prequel. So during the movie I was like "this feels eerie familiar" until the Deacon appeared. So recently I decided to watch all the original Alien movies.

That teaser picture seems to resemble the Deacon from Prometheus more than a regular Xenomorph though.
