His Clumsy Heroics
Kyle sprinted down the stairs tripping a few times but he had to get out of school before his teacher called him back. All that could be heard in the corridors was the battering of his dirty shoes against the newly polished floor. It was the last four steps, he was feeling confident so he leaped off then and front rolled into the foyer. He jumped up and looked around to make sure no one was here and took one step hearing s voice shout his name just to his right.
"Kyle, you shouldn't be doing dangerous things like that it's bad for your health" the receptionist tutted. Kyle couldn't believe his own stupidity, he had forgotten all about her. The word hopeless sprung to mind.
"I know I know, I was just feeling brave I guess" Kyle said rubbing the back of his head while turning towards her with a terrible attempt at a smile.
"Never did get that back did you?" She said.
"Nope, not since he died" Kyle muttered.
"Oh well it'll come back when you want it to, now come over here I've got your Christmas report to give you" She said waving it about in the air.
Kyle skidded over to her on the polished and slippery floor. He stopped at the little window and sneakily snatched the report from her hand and jumped away to arms length from her.
"You shouldn't snatch things from irritable women at half nine in the morning Kyle, for all I know I could have reacted quicker than you expected and closed that window on your arm. Snapping it in two like a twig." She said shaking her head with her eyes closed.
"I'll keep that in mind Miss, see ya" Kyle turned on his heels and he was off, flying out the door like a rocket, out of the school gate almost getting hit by a car.
Kye walked down the rain polluted street and suddenly realised how cold it was and without a coat, blazer and nothing underneath his shirt he was foundered. His teeth were chattering against his will as he walked down the street getting looks from people he walked past. They were all the kind of old women who would pick on every little thing and clean reject other people's opinions. Kyle didn't mind old people but he found them very annoying at times. One woman was carrying bags full of clothes and toys, probably Christmas shopping for her grandchildren. Kyle never had any grandparents, he's been alone for eight years and the closest person to him is probably...
His phone buzzed inside his pocket and speak of the devil he got a text from Anna. By now he was in a small cafe buying himself a muffin with what little change he had left. He stood in the line admiring the muffins as he opened his phone and looked at the text, It said...
"Alley behind your building HELP!"
Straight after reading the text Kyle slammed what change he had onto the counter and swiped a muffin from the rack. Pushing past a lot of people in the crowded cafe he eventually got out and ran down the street ignoring everything around him.
*
Anna rounded the corner and saw Kyle's building, she had walked here straight from school because she got the idea of coming here ahead of Kyle to start packing before him. She walked happily down the street passing by three men but took no notice of them. She reached the door to Kyle's building and reached out for the door handle but not before getting a cold hand wrapped over her mouth. She was confused and kicked randomly hitting the door trying to wake the sleeping concierge. It was no use. She was caught. It was no use the man was too strong for her. The only thing she could think of doing at the time was texting Kyle. As soon as that thought popped into her head, that was all she needed to fight on. She struggled again and managed to elbow the man in his gut a couple of times. On the seventh he let go of her.
She ran down the street not looking back. Strangely she wasn't being pursued. She looked up and saw two more men running from the bottom of the street. She now realised that it was the three men she had passed barely a minute before. The other man was closing in behind her so she panicked and ran into the alley to her left rushing to pull out her phone and send a quick text to Kyle. Once she pressed send she ran right into a wet, rough and solid surface, falling to the ground she looked up at the dead end.
"Shouldn't you be in school young lady!" One of the crazy men shouted from the end of the alley.
Anna stood back up pressing her back against the wall with a terrified look on her face, she couldn't process what was happening or what was going to happen to her she just stood there frozen still by fear. The men closed in on her with grim looks on their faces they were all like hyenas closing in on their prey.
"I like the legs can I play with those for a bit?" the man on the right asked the one in the middle.
"The both of you can play with her for a while as long as she's unspoiled before she gets to me" an evil smile unraveled on his dirty face.
The one on the right was about to jump on her but he stopped when he was hit in the head by a chocolate chip muffin.
"Hey! Why don't you three rapists get away from her before I kill all three of you!" Kyle shouted at the top of his lungs staring all three of them down as they slowly turned around to face him. Kyle was barely out of breath from the run and was ready for a fight.
"You two go get him I don't want to get my hands dirty yet" the man in the middle said.
The two men obeyed him and ran like mad men towards Kyle. Kyle not wasting a second either sprinted at full speed towards them also. He had reached them within four seconds but not before slipping and falling head first into the one on the left's gut sending him to the ground holding his stomach writhing and coughing in pain.
The man who was still standing was shocked at how fast Kyle moved but he was on the ground now and was going nowhere. The man grabbed Kyle and threw him up against the wall adjacent to the dumpster. He punched Kyle in the face four times before kneeing him in the gut and smashing his head off the wall.
Kyle was feeling dizzy, his vision was blurring but he shook his head and managed to tilt his it to the left narrowly avoiding the man's punch. Kyle heard knuckles cracking right next to his ear the sound sent chills down his spine. The man pulled his hand back holding it with his other hand trying to ease his pain. Kyle took advantage of the opportunity he'd been given, flew forward head first head butting the man. He was dazed so Kyle threw his arm forward grabbing his shirt. Another puddle. Kyle fell backwards and pulled the man with him and without thinking about it he spun around using his momentum, throwing the man over him. He landed on top of the other man both knocking each other on conscious.
Kyle lay there on the soaking wet ground, his entire body was cold it was like he was floating on the surface of a small body of water. What was going to happen to him or more importantly Anna if he didn't get up. That was no longer a problem. Kyle was viciously pulled up from the ground by the leader of the three. Kyle swung punches for his chest, he was gaining all of the momentum on the swing but none of the force was being delivered properly. It wasn't because he was out of energy he still has enough left to throw a decent punch. It was something else.
"Pathetic or dumb luck I'm torn between what I should call you" The man sneered at Kyle, holding him by the scruff of his neck.
"S..Screw you, rat bastard" Kyle mustered up the courage to grin confidently at his opponent and he didn't like it one bit.
Kyle was punched in the throat, picked up and thrown into a small glass pane left lying in the alley the week before. It was over. His body wouldn't respond to what his brain was telling it to do. Inside his head he was screaming to himself to get up but nothing happened. He glanced over at Anna and saw that she was close to tears he was full of anger but could do nothing about it.
"What are you going to do now eh?" The man asked wildly grinning down at Kyle.
Kyle could only think of one thing to do, show him Anna's dark side. He gripped the longest piece of glass he could find.
"I've got something in mind...ANNA!" He shouted to her and threw the piece of glass to her.
Anna's head jerked up and she saw the shard flying towards her, in her head she quickly worked out what Kyle wanted her to do. Her eyes narrowed staring the man down like he was an insignificant speck of dust. A menacing grin appeared on her face, she was nothing like the happy and cheery Anna from before Kyle had purposefully awakened the monster inside of her. She gracefully jolted forward the piece of glass going past her, losing momentum. She kept her left wrist low and turned it so that her palm was facing upwards. She had timed it perfectly, the shard fell into her hand. The moment glass touched skin she gripped it tightly excusing the blood and jumped onto the man's back holding the shard to his neck.
"I'll give you three seconds to run before I make your life go night night" She barked at him like a wild dog.
He ran and held onto his pitiful life for a little while longer. Anna dropped the shard and fell to the ground crying. Kyle didn't want that to happen but if he didn't do it chances are they'd both have been killed. He knew about he darker side because he's seen her in practice at the kendo club. She was an expert swords woman she'd been developing her skill since she was eight around the same time her Mother died. She never had a Dad so she had to learn how to protect herself but without any kind of weapon she didn't have the courage to stand up and fight.
Kyle pulled himself up off the ground. Noticing the pain he pulled small shards of glass that had pierced through his shirt out of his skin. Kyle being the only one who could calm her down limped over to her and puts his mouth close to her ear and spoke.
"Anna it's me, Kyle" He whispered softly
"Kyle?" Anna whimpered.
"Aye, want to go home?" He asked
"Y..Yes" She whispered.
"Come on then." Kyle helped her up off the freezing cold ground and over the two unconscious men, out of the alley.
"Kyle?" Anna asked looking down at the ground.
"Aye?" Kyle answered stopping at the end of the street getting ready to cross the road.
"Thanks for saving me" She said looking up at him with a big smile on her face and tears streaming from her eyes.
Kyle simply smiled back at her and replied. "I couldn't have done it without you."
