Yes, it is indeed a mode as it's stated to be such. While you do get x4 speed, you can opt to move at the max speed you can track or just say screw it and take a risk with the tunnel vision. It's either that or update your specialties to be able to track that, or do the same with your attributes when the AP system drops.
