Well technically the plan was Madara's and Obito was pretty much executing it, so you could argue that the true leader is Madara. And Obito had some serious setbacks, starting with Naruto getting Nagato (key to the plan) on his side. The original plan called for Nagato to sacrifice himself to revive Madara. I suspect that Obito modified that part to apply to himself, but Nagato killed himself for Naruto's sake, wrecking his plans - Obito's body is too damaged to become the juubi jinchuriki, but he could still perform Rinne Tensei, except he does not want to die for Madara. On top of that, Kabuto revived Madara with Edo Tensei, effectively denying him the option to use Rinne Tensei on him (or rather get someone else to do it :)).
And he also messed up being too impatient and creating the Juubi before he captured the 8 and 9 tails. This will probably prove fatal to his plan.

In short, the true master was Madara, but the person who took over the plan (Obito) messed it up.

I'm pretty sure that Madara doesn't even know what "Akatsuki" is. How can he be a true master? Akatsuki leaders were Nagato(before him Yahiko) and Tobi. They were pretty even and cooperating for their own future plans.

Idk how much of that can be attributed to strength. He's been dodging the entire fight. That's pretty much all he ever does for the most part. I wish he'd be a more offensive fighter.

The fact that he can't be hit is a gigantic strength. It's hard to deny that Obito wasn't one of the strongest guy there, since without intimate knowledge on how his jutsu works theres just no defeating him. I mean, it took countless encounters of Kakashi with him and Obitos Sharigan to even have the oppertunity to defeat him. Same with Konan, she spent years with him to gain the knowledge that was capible of nearly killing him. No one else could come close to that, not even Itachi, Kisame and all the other heavy hitters.

Yes, powerful Jutsu is one thing. But Obito was one of those guys who can remove people from this world with just a touch or remain untouchable. All the power in the world, can't match up to that.

As for being a leader. Yes, he is. Nagato controlled Akaksuki and Nagato answered to Obito. That was it really.

You are right that Madara does not know anything about Akatsuki, but his plan was to have Obito befriend Nagato and collect the tailed beasts with his help, then manipulate him to revive him. How exactly this was done was minor detail to him, the Akatsuki organization was merely a tool.

Definately Yahiko. He kept the organisation together with his will and drive alone. He was the true leader of the Akatsuki, even Nagato couldn't do what he did, hence why it all fell apart.

The Akatsuki was doomed as soon as Yahiko died.

huh ? when have we ever saw yahiko leading akatsuki?... hope your joking...lmao you mean the premature akatsuki before any s rank nin joined the organization but the akatsuki we seen since the first part of naruto been all tobi(obito). he was the boss even kisame knew this.
