Half the battle of fighting the Akatsuki was finding out how to kill them.
I know that seems obvious but half the akatsuki were so crudely made (crude is a strong word because some had good overall concepts), all kishimoto did was give most of them some ability that allowed them to either forestall the story which in the end their death's became anti-climatic.
Sasori= He had a portion of his human self that had to be destroyed, if they had known that it wouldn't have taken half as long as it did.
Kakuzu=His was much more interesting in that each of his hearts had their own will and powerful, but the concept was the same. He was created with the purpose of expanding the story. He didn't even have a backstory unlike sasori's.
Hidan=basically the same deal as hidan, except that he was actually immortal. Also, no backstory.
Pain=Although his fight was epic, have the time they were trying to find out where his true body was.
Tobi=If it wasn't for kakashi they probably would never have figured out how to defeat him.
This was just something i noticed as im rewatching the Shippuden episodes
