Disagree. Kishi didn't weaken them, they were fought by teams of powerful ninja specifically because they were so strong. Ninja couldn't take them alone. I think that demonstrates that they were quite powerful. Especially Pain, who would not have lost otherwise.

The thing with Shikamaru: Shikamaru won that fight by taking his knowledge of Hidan's attacks and using them to his advantage. Hidan wasn't weakened, he just wasn't as smart as Shikamaru.

Gai and Kisame: Kisame was weakened yes, but Samehada only pretended to be allied with B to steal his chakra for Kisame. The very next page shows his chakra being sucked out and Kisame recovering...

With Chiyo: Yes, but that was important to the plot. This is still a story...and the bad guys gotta go down.

Fully agreed here.

In the anime (not sure about the manga) Kakuzu just stands around choking Chouji and Ino while Shikamaru is frantically dodging and Kakashi is fighting Hidan. If he'd just killed them it would probably have won them the battle (and it wouldn't exactly have been out of character. The man is a cold killer), with Shikamaru and to a lesser extent Kakashi being emotionally distraught.

Also, though I'm fine with Shikamaru beating Hidan, that BS with switching the blood to fast for Hidan to even see? That's just... not good writing.

And what about Pein's latest fight? Does anyone else find it suspect that, when he's regained full mobility for the first time in YEARS, he'd just stand around like an idiot waiting to be ambushed? And NOT NOTICE the chakra presence of a goddamned SUSANO'O?

I'm a bit pissed at Kishi's handling of Akatsuki in general, really. Nice to see I'm not alone.
