What seems to be most important, however, are their rings. In total, there are ten rings given to each of the ten main members of Akatsuki.

What is the rings' exact purpose??????????
..
.
The various rings are:

  1. Right thumb: 零 (rei, "zero"); worn by Pain. Its colour is purplish-grey.
  2. Right index finger: 青 (Ao, shō, "blue," "green"); worn by Deidara. Its colour is teal.
  3. Right middle finger: 白 (bya, "white"); worn by Konan. Its colour is white.
  4. Right ring finger: 朱 (shu, "vermilion," "scarlet"); worn by Itachi Uchiha. Its colour is red.
  5. Right little finger: 亥 (gai, "sign of the boar"); worn by Zetsu. Its colour is green.
  6. Left little finger: 空 (kū, "sky," "void"); worn by Orochimaru. Its colour is slate blue.
  7. Left ring finger: 南 (nan, "south"); worn by Kisame Hoshigaki. Its colour is yellow.
  8. Left middle finger: 北 (hoku, "north"); worn by Kakuzu. Its colour is dark green.
  9. Left index finger: 三 (san, "three"); worn by Hidan. Its colour is orange.
  10. Left thumb: 玉 (gyoku, "jewel," "ball," also the black king in shogi); worn by Sasori and later by Tobi. Its colour is purple.

Tobi, Konan, and Pein discussed the idea that having bling would be nice.

The rings seem to play a big role, since they didn't bother to replace Oro since he took it with him. Maybe it has something to do with the Genryū Kyūfūjin, the technique used to seal the Bijū, where each member takes a position on one finger of the Mazō. Ten Fingers>Ten rings>Ten members. This is of course, just speculation, as the purpose of the rings hasn't been revealed yet.
