Akatsuki painting eachothers nails & toe nails?!

This is not a troll thread, I'm genuinely curious/serious. Sooo I'm sure most of you are well aware that the members of akatsuki usually have their finger nails and toe nails painted(with the exception of Obito who always wears gloves). They all seem to have their own color for themselves aswell. My question is, why? Half of the members have been showed in flashbacks where they don't have their nails painted, so is this an exclusive Akatsuki-members-only fad, or do you think there is actually some meaning behind it? I guess it does give some of the members a more ominous look, and some members look more feminine. I just can't wrap my head around a bunch of badasses sitting in a circle painting their nails. This is honestly what comes to mind when I think of the notion....

Yea I was wondering if anyone knew if it had anything to do with Japanese culture and criminals in some way. Not to say gangs like the Yakuza paint their nails lol, but maybe Kishimoto was inspired but something from his culture?

I'm pretty sure each of their nails match the color of their ring, and the rings are only given once you become a member.
