As a person Aokiji is stronger because Akainu has the elemental advantage and Aokiji still managed to come close to winning

Dat Haki, and there will to Live and fight. We have seen it with luffy vs Rob Lucci. Akainu probably has a stronger will to live and fight than Aokoji. Aokoji is much more laid back and truthfully would not make a good Admiral imo, he is not serious or stern enough, i mean look at the situation with doffy, if it was akainu, even if he wasnt a marine, he would have fought him, seriously, considering he sees what doffy is doing to marines. Logia users seem to have a pretty even match up when they do not have a natural dominance over the opposing logia user, Logia vs Logia is boring imo becuase in the end its just going to come down to haki.

It took ten days in the manga as well.
Aokiji also showed the capability to freeze magma. While it wasn't canon, the fact that Oda chose to portray him as being able to do so is more than enough to assume that he actually doesn't have an inferiority to Akainu.

You have to remember that Aokiji isn't an Admiral, and Doffy is both a Shichibukai and former Celestial Dragon with ties to his brethren. He can't just go around murdering people like Doflamingo. Remember what Sentomaru said when he met Luffy after 2 years? "Unlike 2 years ago, I'm an official Marine, so I can arrest you." This shows not just any civilian can go around attacking criminals aside from bounty hunters.

Also, Sengoku himself, a master tactician, saw Aokiji fitting for the role of Fleet Admiral. The fact that Aokiji killed his friend Saul for the sake of duty shows that Aokiji can put aside his laid-backness and do what needs to be done.

Sorry, messed up the days, but it was clearly shown that Ace had the elemental advantage over Aokiji. If Akainu's magma can burn even fire then it would be kind of weird if Aokiji wasn't weak to Magma. It would b like fire>ice=magma>fire

U r right though Oda hasn't depicted any weakness between the two. Aokiji freezes magma and Akainu has been shown to melt ice

Akoji would be stronger in a ranking comparing to others. Akainu would be stronger in this specific match-up alone.
