I'm really wondering about the concept of afterlife in Narutoverse. With the explanation of et, it makes me believe that, when a person dies, their soul is floating around somewhere without memory or consciousness. When someone uses et, that soul is forced to be stuck in some mindless dead body again. It is neccessary to have the matching dna for that specific soul to do it (if I got it right).

Then, when the soul is stuck in a new body, the user of the jutsu can allow consciousness or not. When he allows it, the person has his memories and personality back and feels like waking up. They do not have any memory of the time between their death and their 'rebirth'. When the body gets defeated or recalled or sealed, where does the immortal soul go? Is it stuck in said body? Or, in case of Itachi, when the person loses their bond with earth and is free to go, they return to that big nothing again?

What do you think? What happens to someone who got sealed? To those in the reaper death seal? Where do they go and why do they sometimes say that they will watch over the living? It's obvious everyone has an immortal soul that cannot die but how do they join with their loved ones? How do they watch over the living when they cannot remember? They don't like being forced back into a body so I assume they were free before.

And in which condition are you 'reborn'? The condition you had when you died or the condition you had when the jutsu user took your dna? See the hokage, they look like their always do but I don't know if Hashirama really died that young. Plus Madara died as a very old man and return full health.

I know this board has a couple experts so please enlighten me.

It's been contradicted a lot, such as when kakashi died he was with his father, everyone bought back with et didn't have a conscious thought of their death, i don't think there's any set answer i think it's just what ever kishi feels like at the time

They're bound to whatever object they were sealed into. For example Sais drawings, The Gold and Silver brothers Benihisago, Itachis Sword of Totsuka, and so forth. I highly doubt Edo Tensei would work on anyone who's soul is sealed regardless of what they were sealed by unless it is undone beforehand. The only reason the Death Reaper Seal is considered to be different is because it was said to be irreversible, unlike many other sealing techniques.

What happens after that is a toss up, but it was mentioned that anyone who is sealed in the Sword of Totsuka is sent to a world of drunken dreams, and those who are sealed by the reaper fight for all eternity inside it's belly. Other than that I have no idea.

So there is something that even Kishi couldn't find a way for a flawless afterlife. Thank goodness he didn't create an afterlife like that in DBZ.

I don't know what and how can be an afterlife since I'm not dead yet or not revived back. Don't put much strain or you'll see the afterlife soon. ;)

He showed the death but didn't took it further so as not to spoil his story which somewhat seemed realistic for everyone. Showing the afterlife would mean something like fantasy. He only showed us about Kakashi and his dad just to put his father into the show for some time. It was not even the afterlife. They were stuck in between somewhere to get the apologies and regretting for what they did.

Kakashi retained his memories of his father, but the Edo's didn't. Kinda confusing.....
