After Obito got crushed by the boulder, Rin throwing herself in front of Kakashi's Chidori and Minato dying to save the village, who do you think could have pulled Kakashi out of depression? As strong willed as Kakashi is, I doubt that he just got up and decided 'life goes on' by himself especially when he blames himself for breaking his promise to Obito.
