[Discussion] Ace Had More Potential than luffy

main character doesn't really have to do with anything. it's just plot that ace happened to be killed off like that before he became a real force to deal with

The whole point of a main character is to fulfil a certain obligation or pursue a passion, or any other thing, but to drive them into doing that, the author/poet/mangaka will always equip them with the tools necessary to fulfil that. Of course, this doesn't apply to all the literary text out there, but I can see that it fits in perfectly with One Piece.

A real threat?
If that's what you're saying, Ace was already mostly developed - in terms of his strength, DF ability and haki usage (I think this might need more work but it would not make a substantial difference), he'd be a bit more stronger, but definitely not as much as Luffy, he was already a real threat.

I disagree I think Ace was a great character but I think he was always a character that was meant to die & that his death would be the thing propelled Luffy into the next half of the story. & I also think whatever it is that makes Luffy "Special" is what made Roger "Special".

Of course he had more potential than luffy, did you not see his bounty it's 550milli beli. Still the highest in the series lol.
Besides that i think Ace would of beat at least kuzan but not akainu who is clearly a little below WB

He used it against the pirates he and Dadan fought with. Chapter 587. It wasn't named then. But the crew of that pirate group were knocked off and only the leader remained standing.

Luffy had more confidence in his own abilities and his life itself, Ace was insecure and was always doubting whether he should have lived in the first place or not, so in that aspect Luffy was superior to him, his willpower was/is more superior then Ace's was, Kings Haki required also a mental balance or something I believe for it to get stronger the person needed too grow himself, im not sure about the other 2 haki's.

Theres a reason why oda took ace out of the scenes. After aces visit in alabasta the spotlight was stolen oda had to do everything he can to give it back to luffy and i do believe that ace had more potential
