[Discussion] Ace Had More Potential than luffy

I believe that should Ace have survived the war of the best and was allowed to train like luffy was allowed to he could put some spins on his DF like luffy, like being able to spontaneously jump to fires (Got that idea from what embers do) and cause a fire on the spot, by that I mean not having to be in physical contact to cause fire, If you follow.

And if Ace was to gain proper control of Haki like luffy did, I would dare say it would be stronger than his, as Ace showed the Conquerors Haki as early as 10 years old, while luffy first demonstrated it somewhere between 17-18 years old and while that might not neccessarily mean anything I think it's a good hint at where they're at when compared to eachother

Well, I always believed that.That's why I was sure Ace would die eventually.
Considering that his devil fruit ability was much more flexible and powerful than Luffy's and considering that's his mother and father both had Haki(high levels),I believe if he had a chance to develop his power with Haki he would be above Luffy's level.

Well, I always believed that.That's why I was sure Ace would die eventually.
Considering that his devil fruit ability was much more flexible and powerful than Luffy's and considering that's his mother and father both had Haki(high levels),I believe if he had a chance to develop his power with Haki he would be above Luffy's level.

well not his current strength compared to timeskip luffy but I believe he would of been stronger than luffy if he trained for 2 years also

he probably would of learnt his lesson from blackbeard and yea wouldn't of hurt him to focus on his physical strength but I guess you get overconfident as a logia

Luffy, like Ace, was blessed with Kings Haki, so there isn't really a discussion here. The other two types of Haki could be learnt by anyone, so this too isn't up for discussion. We are talking about who has more potential, right? So I guess Haki's out of the picture, and even if it was, can't beat getting trained by Rayleigh! I also feel as if the Gomu Gomu no has more potential as a fruit. It has the ability to boost every aspect in battle. Gear third for strength, Gear second for speed, immune to blunt, physical attacks and so forth. The only thing Ace really had on Luffy was the fact that he was a Logia, that's pretty much it. I'm not too sure the Mera can explore other powers like the Gomu can, but then again, who would've guessed the Gomu would be so strong, and have so much potential...

the sad thing is we will never know what ace could do, and who woulda thought that luffy had a fire attack, which can even be used in water?

Exactly, that's what makes Luffy's fruit more versatile. The vulcanization of the rubber is what lead to that, I believe.

I don't mean to sound stereotypical, but at the end of the day, the main character is meant to be the one with the most potential, and in this case, if it's a guy trying to be the King of something (Pirate King), it's going to take more than simple hard work to become something like that, it's going to take potential, and Luffy clearly has more than he needs.

main character doesn't really have to do with anything. it's just plot that ace happened to be killed off like that before he became a real force to deal with

Ace did have more potential than Luffy there is no doubt about that , even his fruit had more potential ( I am saying this depending on the time before he died and not the future ) .

but his Death was a necessity more than anything , now imagine if Ace lived , he would have become the new leader instead of whitebeard , he'll have this reputation about being the son of the greatest pirate of all time , commander in whitebeard's crew and raised by Luffy's grandfather , if he were to live all the news would be about Ace , everyone will be after him from good to bad , Luffy would be washed away by all of this and his crew won't have the chance to develop , Luffy would just make a gigantic party , eat , sleep and possibly entering the new world without any training since he wouldn't care , of all the times Luffy got a power up it was to protect his friends and family so Ace's death was necessary , look at the way he died , he wasn't defeated , just had bad luck
