I didn't realize it was that good. Maybe I'll give it a watch. Marvel and Disney broke me, I stopped watching movies entirely, certainly not one from Disney
I had no impressions of this movie. Even if I came across it's trailer or name somewhere, I must have dismissed it as some promotional movie for Kpop bands made for teens.
Even yesterday when I googled it, some results suggested, it was LGBTQ related. So I didn't think much of it before. ( nothing against the topic but I'm fed up with over promotion of it)

Which is exactly why this movie is such a welcoming breath of fresh air. It doesn't really bring anything new to the table, but exactly because it just tries to be a fun movie, it works. The animation quality is simply high, the characters are hilarious and have and amazing chemistry, and the music is just catchy.
I saw someone complaining on Reddit that it didn't deserve the Oscar because it was too generic. Well, that's exactly why it works so well. The premise is so corny it could come straight out of a manga, but it's used in such an entertaining way you just can't stop feeling giddy. I'm honestly kind of tired of all these Western movies where the whole plot is basically just dress up to push certain social themes. I want to be entertained, not lectured.
It's ironic that again and again movies are created for female empowerment, fail 9 time out of 10, then whine of how sexist the world is, and then just randomly an animated movie is dropped with female-only leads that takes the world by storm. And this came from Netflix of all things.
There might have been an unintentional sneer towards the other Oscars as I barely knew the movies that won. Honestly, that K-Pop Demon Hunters won, was the only thing I found relevant exactly because it's all fun without having any kind of pretentiousness to it.

It has absolutely nothing to do with LGBTQ; there's even a recurrent gag where you have the MC fawning over male abs. But I can imagine there are people who try to somehow turn this movie into something for LGBTQ exactly because this movie succeeded where all Western movies pushing certain social themes utterly failed. I mean:
