So it goes without saying that everyone knows that we all thought it was pretty straightforward that the Senju thought that the way to peace was through love and the Uchiha thought the way was through power. I'm not sure I need to include manga scans, but I will just to make myself seem more legit.
As I said I thought this was straightforward, but now I think Kishi might be muddying the picture up a little bit. Two insights into these clans from newer chapters are:
1- The Uchiha value love "more" than the Senju
2- Kid Hashi's cynicism of Senju "love"
These developments clearly muddy the idea that Senju = Love and Uchiha = Hate/Power... Not only that but I'm starting to think that Kishi is leading us up to Senju =/= Love, the same way he dropped the Uchiha=/= Hate bomb on us with Tobirama. Here are some reasons:
1- Ok so the Senju have the Will of Fire and clearly try the hardest to promote good relations with other clans... but who among them actually loves people outside their village. Basically only Naruto, and maybe you could say Jiraiya with the 3 kids from the Rain but it's not really a thing outside of those two. The Will of Fire is basically all about your own village, but it's not actually trying to create peace between other villages. In this way the Will of Fire is kind of like the Uchiha sibling love which is intense between those who are close, but doesn't extend to outsiders. If Senju believe love is the way to peace it can't just be among the clans of your village but among all clans. (This is kind of cheating because its taking something between clans and imposing it on villages, but I feel like the Will of Fire is not a way to peace but really just a bond between those already close)
2- Hashi's cynicism about the Senju's love clearly shows that saying Love is the way to peace isn't as straightforward as it might sound at first. His father thinks that teaching his children how to be good shinobi is love, but Hashi seems to think that understanding between clans is the way to peace (his love being the absence of violence due to trust), and at the same time Tobirama thinks rules are the way to peace... In this way there seems to be a distinction between Hashi's dad and his children in terms of non-violence, and perhaps the modern Senju position could be simplified from the generic "love" into non-violent ways to produce peace.
All that being said, I'm not really sure where Kishi is going with this, but I feel like him muddying the ideas of the Senju and Uchiha is setting us up for new revelations about the Senju ideology... This isn't to say that the Senju = Hate, but rather that the Love vs Hate dynamic was an historical simplification and that the reality isn't as black and white but more ambiguous.
