About the Kages. I hope I'm not alone in this,..

Whaddayaknow, the Kages are the ones who know everything. Which is cool IMO.

But it seems everybody has a different idea of what's going to happen, which is only based in previous situations in the story, and if they were to be true it would contradictory to what their purpose was said to be; Provide information.

The Kages were revealed and offcoooooourse sh*t hits the fan here on NB.
About most of the threads on NB insist on the Kages returning to battle.
There are already Minato- and Hiruzen Versus Obito- and Madara threads and whatnot.

I hope I'm not alone in the idea that the Kages aren't going anywhere.

As stated they're the ones who 'wittnessed history', so I assume they're only back to provide an explination of what has actually happened so far, giving us a flashback from all the Kages' POV.
They were revived from the Shinigami, and I expect them to go back where they came from after talking to Sasuke, because we know being sealed in the Shinigami is permanent.

To add to my argument I have a feeling that the reason for this meeting is that Minato will have a similair message to Sasuke as Itachi did to Naruto.

I agree. Orochimaru controls the Kage who will not use them to join the war. After Sasuke gets the info he wants Orochimaru will use the Kage to try and take over Sasuke's body and Sasuke will have to somehow stop him.

I don't think they're returning to the shinigami afterwards. Their spirits will drift off like everyone else's

As far as I'm concerned, as long as the Shinigami is in the room, they're still bound by the jutsu.

Oro has no interest in the war, he controls them, and unless he gives them free will, they're not going anywhere.
