Okay I have a question that's been bugging me for awhile and I honestly don't know what to make of it: When Jiraya fights Nagato he realises just before his death that the real Pain is not amongst the 6 fighting him. What's bugging me tho is how he finds out - he claims that all of the 'bodies' fighting him are people he has met/fought before.

So my question is: Why did Nagato choose only bodies of people Jiraya has met/fought? Even such that Jiraya met/defeated before meeting Nagato (such as for example the guy from the pub that ends up as the Pretha Path). Is there any significance to that and how on Earth did Nagato learn about them and get his hands on them?

What are your thoughts on this? I'm seriously at a loss :shrug:

Jiraiya was writing novels and traveling the world, he met and fought many many people. Jiraiya went to every village and studied under them for years at a time. It's just a coincidence.

Sorry for repeating the thread then, I hadn't seen yours o: but I am rather new here... ^^;

Too bad about the no conclusion tho, I was hoping someone might have a nice theory to explain it...

Coincidence seems HIGHLY unlikely. I am sure it was of some importance, but I have never come up with an answer.

I would love to know, though. Hopefully someone has figured it out, or, if not, Kishi explains at some point.

What proof do you have for that? Did Pain ever say it, or was it ever mentioned? If it was, I don't remember. If not, you cannot say for sure. I'm not saying that it wasn't a coincidence, just that it seems highly unlikely.

If it was said, though, could you show me the page?

Agree with you, it can't be JUST a coincidence, those people are completely random, some of them are not even exceptionally strong or talanted while alive, why on Earth would he choose them exactly when he can choose any given corpse from Amegakure? (as he does later, adding that new girl as the Animal Path) Dunno... for me, if it was just a coincidence, it would be a dissapointment, because it would just cross the border of reasonable in a fictional work. Like when you read a cheap novel and everything turns out JUST right because of a gazillion coincidences and you're like... yeeeeah... sure...

Plot? I doubt Nagato knew every person Jiraya had met and Jiraya was good at remembering faces....

I would be really disappointed, as well. I mean, what's the point of going out of your way to make them ninja from Jiraiya's past, explain that, and just leave it to coincidence?

kishi clearly used plot no jutsu.. coz seriously, if no one knows who this ninjas are, its impossible for anyone to figure out that nagato is not with them.

Nagato stalked Jiraiya his whole life. Why don't we all go back and look for Nagato hiding in every flashback panel of Jiraiya's...
