As Nyx's embrace encoils herself to and fro
The dreary sky and the lonely Earth below,
I, all alone, in bittersweet memory mourn,
The shining sun taken from this sad abode.

The breezy coming of the sweet incense morn,
Its piercing rays entering each chamber at dawn,
Opening my eyes to the waking world once more,
No Sibyl foretelling the wretched coming forlorn,

There at the feet of the bed my radiant angel stood,
Her honey, biscuits and brew she offered to me like boon,
She smiled and her sweet voice sounding like an etude,
Revivified my body, heart and soul for the day's prelude

But the spark of life's fleeting, each day it is dimming,
And soon our best men are lulled to eternal sleeping,
As all are compelled in the end to answer that bidding,
Leaving the ephemeral world in trembling and weeping

And so her time came to answer to his beck and call,
Departing from our home and my life forevermore,
And only in sorrowful reminiscence of the days of yore,
Does she still live, that light, taken from this abode
.
