Konohagakure, the Village Hidden in the Leaves
Overview:
Konoha is a hidden village located in the Land of Fire. Because it is a village in on of the Five Great Shinobi Countries, Konoha is headed by a Kage, known as the Hokage. So far Konoha has been headed by Five Hokage: Hashirama Senju, Tobirama Senju, Hiruzen Sarutobi, Minato Namizake and the most recent being Tsunade Senju. Konoha is populated by a large number of trees courtesy of the Land of Fires geography and the First Hokage. The Hokage Monument stands tall above the village, overlooking there every move. Konohagakure has always been seen as a superpower, and has always maintained its status as arguably the most powerful village. Konohagakure has fought in the Three Great World Shinobi Wars, and is a major contributor to the Allied Shinobi Forces in the Fourth Great Shinobi War. Konoha has been attacked several times and suffered many internal issues in its history but still stands tall as it maintains it hegemony over the ninja world.
The Founding of the Hidden Leaf Village:
Before the creation of Ninja Villages came into practice, ninjas organised themselves into clans that battled to have gain more power and territory.
These clans were powerful but it was obvious who were the strongest; the Senju Clan (descendants of the Younger Son) and the Uchiha Clan (descendants of the Elder Son). A well heated rivalry had been created between the two. After years of conflict, the Senju approached the Uchiha with a peace treaty and the founding of Konoha.
The leader of the Senju, Hashirama Senju was the main back up of the plan to create Konoha, but the leader of the Uchiha, Madara Uchiha was reluctant. However the rest of the Uchiha Clan grown weary of the fighting wanted to join the Senju to create Konoha and Madara was forced into accepting.
Race for the First Hokage:
The Founders of Konoha, the Uchiha and the Senju struggled to pick there first Hokage. After a small race, Hashirama Senju emerged victorious due to his practices which would lead to the inception of the Will of Fire, and his Wood Release kekkai genkai which effectively made Konoha what it is today.
Madara Uchiha feared that the now in charge Senju will oppress and later eliminate the Uchiha tried to garner up a rebellion group to stage a coup d'etat. The Uchiha saw Madara's actions as a way to rekindle the flames of war and didn't join him. Madara decided to confront Hashirama himself.
The Creation of the Valley of the End and the Tailed Beasts:

The Kyuubi Attack:
After the Third Shinobi World War, Hiruzen retired as Hokage and gave the title to Minato. During this gap, Sasuke Uchiha was born along with many of the ninja of Naruto's generation.
Kushina and Minato expected a child on October 10. Kushina being the host of the Kyuubi led to heavy precautions such as the child birth occurring far from the village and being guarded by the ANBU who were commanded by the former Hokage.
However, a Masked Obito snuck into Konoha and killed the ANBU forces guarding the building the childbirth was taken in. After Naruto was delivered, Obito killed the Third's Wife and another medical nin. Obito held Naruto ransom, and Minato was forced to leave Kushina to save there newborn child.
Obito kamui'd into a location away from the location of childbirth. Obito extracted the Kyuubi from Kushina - Kushina survived the extraction due to her clans longevity. Obito commanded the Kyuubi to kill its former host but was saved by Minato.
Minato left Kushina in a safe location with Naruto and prepared for battle. Obito left the former location and snuck into central Konoha. The Kyuubi was summoned and all hell was let lose. Many ninja under the Third Hokage prepared for a fight with an exception of the children of Kakashi's generation as this wasn't war but an internal issue and the Will of Fire must be passed on.
Minato arrived in Konoha. The Kyuubi attacked him with a Tailed Beast Ball which was teleported away by Minato. Minato trusted the village with the Third while Minato went to deal with the Masked Man.
After a short battle between the two space-time jutsu users, Minato emerged victorious and Tobi escaped. The Kyuubi was released but still went on a rampage due to its own hatred of Konoha. With a combined effort by the shinobi of Konoha, and Hiruzen the Nine Tails was pushed outside of the village. Minato arrived back on the stage as the Kyuubi prepared to launch another Tailed Beast Ball.
Gambunta was summoned by Minato to hold off the Kyuubi for a moment and Minato teleported himself and the beast to a safe location where the blast could occur without any fatalities. An exhausted Kushina attempted to bind the Kyuubi but was unable to. Minato casted a powerful barrier.
Minato used the Dead Consuming Seal to absorb the Yin Chakra of the Nine Tails into himself and then sealed the Yang Chakra into a young Naruto while Kushina protested against Minato's actions. During this time, the Nine Tails realises Minato's plan and attempted to kill Naruto but was stopped by a sacrifice by Minato and Kushina.
Minato gave the key to the seal to a frog to bring back to Mt. Myoboko. Hiruzen and 3 unnamed ANBU watched unable to provide assistance due to the barrier. Minato and Kushina died as Minato trusted Hiruzen to tell the village that Naruto was a hero.
During the attack many ninja died, including Iruka's parents and Naruto's parents. Hiruzen was forced to be hokage again and Naruto was seen as a cursed figure. It was also during this time that Hiruzen found out about Orochimaru's experiments and was exiled to Otagakure as he was unable to kill his former student.

Sunkagure-Otagakure Joint Invasion of Konoha
Invasion of Pain:
The Akatsuki decided to capture the Nine Tails, one of the last two Tailed Beasts. Pain, the leader of the Akatsuki having recently killed Jiraiya decided to launch an attack fast. Naruto went to learn Senjutsu in Mt. Myoboku. As Pain invaded the village was sent to its knees. Many ninja such as Kakashi died. Tsunade devoted her efforts to summoning Katsuya clones and protecting the village.
Tsunade ordered Naruto to come to the village which Danzo disagreed with a forcibly delayed. After realizing that Naruto isn't in the village, in his own sense of justice, Pein used a Shinra Tensei on a massive scale to create a crater where Konoha was present.
Naruto was summoned and prepared to battle. After a long battle, Pein left all of Naruto's toads injured and unable to fight, and Naruto killed all the Pein's with the Deva Path being the exception. After 'capturing' Naruto, Pein reveled his plan to him which Naruto subjected himself to. Pa was killed and then Hinata.
After witnessing this, Naruto transformed into Six Tails and later Eight Tails which Pein was forced to use Chibaku Tensei on. Naruto with the help of his father suppressed the Kyuubi and went on to defeat Pein. He later found the location of the real Pein and convinced him to join Naruto and revive Konoha.
Nagato Rinne Tensei everyone killed in the Invasion and dies. Naruto is seen as a hero.
Rebuilding Konoha and the Fourth Shinobi World War:
Tsunade went into a coma due to chakra depletion and Danzo was selected as Hokage canidate. A Kage Summit was announced in response to the invasion where Danzo died, Sasuke was labelled a criminal, and Tobi declares the Fourth Global War. An allied shinobi alliance is put in place.
As Konoha prepared for war, there allies did too. As reconsutruction continued, Konoha acted as a refugee haven. Many of the ninja that Konoha had such as Kakashi and Naruto went to fight. Sasuke and Orochimaru snuck into Konoha and the Four Deceased Hokage have been revived.

The Uchiha Clan National Police Force was also founded to ease up tensions between the two clans, however it is disputed whether this was actually done to distance the Uchiha from Konoha politics.
With the Five Great Shinobi Countries each having there own Hidden Village and one or more tailed beasts a short lived peace emerged. But hostilities emerged and the First World War began. The war led to the death of Tobirama but not before handing on the title to Hiruzen.

To compensate, many countries began trying to expand there territories and through border conflicts, the ninja world watched as another war ensued.
The Second Shinobi World Wars actual combatants and alliances aren't well fleshed out, but it is clear that Konohagakure was fighting Sunagakure, the Sand Village, and Amekagure the Rain Village. The Stone Village, Iwagakure was also a small combatant.
The battlefields of this war are believed to mostly have occurred in Small Villages such as Amekagure. The War began with the Iwakagure occupation of Kusagakure. This led to a war between Konohagakure and Iwagakure. Sunagakure joined the war presumably against Konohagakure. The War across Kusagakure was a heavy one. Konoha was losing and taking heavy casualties; this is not to say that Iwagakure was winning with few fatalities. The ferocity of this war had never been seen in this manner in decades. Children were sent to fight in the war to lose there short lived lives.
The turning point on the Kusagakure front was the destruction of the Kannabi Bridge which cut off Iwagakure access to Kusagakure. This led to the supposed death of Obito and Kakashi gaining a sharingan in his right eye. In actuality Obito was found by an old Madara who passed on his teachings to him. Madara died during this conflict. Another reason for Konoha's victory on this front was due to Minato and his Flying Thunder God technique which allowed him to fight in several locations at 'once'.

An incident occurred during a war between Kumo and Konoha. An peace treaty was to be signed that coincided with Hinata's birthday. This was then shown to be none other than a plot to kidnap a young Hinata and learn the secrets of the Byukugan. Hiashi Hyuga killed the Head of Kumo who attempted to capture his young child.
Kumo then stated that this was not the case and that the body of Hiashi should be handed to them as it went against the recently signed treaty. Due to Hyuga family traditions, Hiashi's brother, Hizashi father of Neji sacrificed himself to maintain peace and the Hyuga clan which led to a hatred of Hiashi's family by Neji.

The Uchiha Clan Massacre:
The Uchiha had a doujutsu, the Sharingan which was renowned to be able to control the Kyuubi. The Uchiha were sent to live in a corner of the village. Due to this, they planned a coup d'etat now realizing Madara's warnings. Shisui commited suicide as he lost hope in his clan.
Itachi who was a pacifist foresaw a civil war and later a global war was trying to avoid it at all costs. Danzo and the Konoha Council wanted to remove the Uchiha threat while Hiruzen wanted diplomacy. Danzo convinced Itachi to kill his whole clan so his brother can survive.
