So I just finished marineford , witnessed Ace's death, and let me tell you...that was sad as hell. For the first time ever watching/reading an anime or manga, I cried.
I realize this isn't news at all, but what really struck me so hard was just thinking about how Garp was the one who raised him and luffy, and tried to steer them away from piracy but ultimately failing. Gol D Roger even tasked him with taking care of ace. And now it is coming back to bite him and is forced to watch as his own grandson is slaughtered right in front of his very eyes. I don't know why, but when I started thinking about that I got so upset and started crying. Part of it was because I started connecting Garp's situation to real life instances that were similar, and I'm willing to admit I just broke down in tears. It was really strange. Typically no matter how sad a manga is I hardly get upset even the slightest, but that moment was so upsetting. Add to the fact that Luffy had worked so hard to free him only for him to fail in the very end, Whitebeard having to watch his "son" die and I felt awful.
Anyways, again, I know that what I was talking about earlier wasn't news or anything, but I would like to hear what you guys felt like after Marineford (specifically around Ace's death) and also be free to discuss any other moments in One Piece that upset you greatly, or even in any other manga for that matter. I praise Eiichiro Oda for having been able to bring me to such emotions from a manga and that is why I truly praise One Piece as well, for a great story that is able to do such a thing is hard to come across sometimes.
