Trust NB to spout out a retarded conversation.

Anyhow, that is pretty amazing. When you take in to account the size of the explosion in those images, and the actual size of the star, we're talking amount massive scales. Even better, we're looking at something that happened in the past. Awesome.

thats pretty amazing and importent, the closest supernova ever found. i hope they will build a new space telescope to study it better, we can get amazing data from this.

and yeah, it happened 12 million years ago. 1 light year means light will only reach us after 1 year since it happened, light is amazingly slow compared to the scale of the universe. even in our solar system it takes the light from the sun 7 minutes to reach the earth, so in truth, everytime you look at the sun you look 7 minutes into the past. someone once said that all the stars we see in the sky died out, and were replaced by new stars that also died. the sky shows us things that happened millions of years ago.

Im sure its a huge deal, people get killed in the middleeast but no "this" is a huge deal. And also the kinda people in to this are the people that dies when they hear loud music.

No, but I kinda wanna die after reading what you said.
Also, what is and isn't a big deal is completely based on opinion. The middle east and a super nova have nothing to do with each other. Next I'll be hearing that I shouldn't wipe my own ass because people dying in the middle east is a bigger deal. Just because there's something bad happening in one part of the world, doesn't mean you let it run your life and block you from having interests in other things. You signed onto NB, you probably read the manga today too, but yet, there's people dying in the middle east, how could you man? How could you?

Light year defines as the astronomical unit of length, it doesn't mean time, one light year, looking from atronimcal aspects is actually distance, which is as following... 9.4605284 × 1015 meters

Which infact is 9.5 trillion kilometres, which is equivelent to one light year.

yes, but distance is also a measure of time. like saying "it will take me about 10 minutes to drive to school" or "it takes about 4 hours to reach new york by plane". speed, distance and time are all in the same equation and can be used to explain the other variables. it's simply a diffrent description of what a light year is but it's not wrong. if light is emitted in the earth's direction and is 9.5 trillion kilometres away, we will only get that light after 1 year.

it's also possible to calculate the actual speed of light if you know the distance and the travel time:
9.4605284e+15 is the distance in kilometers
31,556,926 is the seconds in one year
velocity = distance / time so speed of light = 9.4605284e+15 / 31,556,926 = 299792457.605 kilometers every second. so depending on how much you know, light year can be used for distance, time and velocity.

Actually, things like this really are big deals for many reasons.

1.) Opportunity to learn more about the creation and destruction of stars, solar systems, galaxies, etc.
2.) If the burst of energy is heading straight towards Earth and has the power to wipe out life on this planet, then it just now reached us, giving us little time in comparison to the cosmos on to either save ourselves or prepare ourselves for the end. (not saying the radiation from this supernova is currently a threat to us)

As f*cked up as it may seem, the troubles and quarrels mankind have is really, really on no comparable level to any such event space has to hold. We're mere ants, no, mere nanobes (one of the smallest organisms known to man) compared to just our galaxy alone. A war in the middle east will mean nothing if we ever find out Earth itself is in terrible danger from a cosmic event. And trust me, our planet, Earth, has it's fate already set by a cosmic event. If it survives long enough to see our own sun consume it, it still died due to a cosmic event.
