Seeing him after the curse seal was broken & he came to his senses really made me wonder how great a man he could have been. And I KNOW he wouldn't have had any part in the Uchiha Coup. Hell, he might have replaced Itachi. Or just vanished with Rin to protect Itachi's cover.

He already knew about the cursed seal, that's why he let Kakashi strike him. The only thing he didn't knew was Madara's role in Rin's death, or he didn't even care about the reason.
