When I first saw the VoTE fight, I always thought about the significance of the final Chidori/Rasengan clash and the unique manner in which the chakra orb that surrounded them dispersed:

That blocky pattern resembles Kaguya's portal technique.

You could say that the impenetrable black represents an series of unforeseeable events to follow.

EDIT: As Dragonor rightly pointed out, Naruto and Sasuke are also in the same positions in both scans.

Very nice catch. If you pay attention both Naruto and Sauske are in the same positions in both panels.

Kishimoto seems to have always had a rough idea of the series overall.

It's just the finer details that aren't conjured until nearer time.

It seems that he has thought ahead multiple times...

Sasuke muttering 'that time...crying' then the reveal of a repressed memory of Itachi crying during the masscre.

Cover of Naruto,Sasuke, and Sakura with a Toad,Snake, and slug in the first few chapters

Team Minato cover in the beginning and Kakashi's mysterious sharingan

Madara&Hashirama statue

Zetsu as unknown person watching Hashirama and Madara battle

Cs2 being a version of Sage mode and Orochimaru's power of the white snake

Gaara calling shukaku the spirit of an old sand priest shukaku flashback of his Jinchuuriki sand priest literally being thought of as shukaku itself.

Tobi is a good boy(in hind sight this is possibly the greatest troll of all time...he literally told the fan base everything while hiding in plain sight...remember look underneath the underneath)

Don't see why people are so insistent on saying the guy is winging it

Let me give you another example of such similar clever foreshadow:

One of the co-creators of the Digimon anime, Hiroyuki Kakudou, said that it's pretty standard to have an ending worked out from the beginning.

"It’s the same for both short and long series: without a clear vision of what the last episode would be like, your story won’t have much focus."

This is so that as the story develops, the ending guides the direction of the story. I kind of don't know how it's hard to miss all those times when Kishimoto said that he has an ending (two of the Invasion of Pain tankoban), and interviews where he also said that he had a finale and his job was to figure out how to connect point A to point B.

The reason the Digimon creator explained that endings are developed ahead of time is because he was pestered by a shipper as to why their OTP didn't happen. He said "Why is that on your mind?" Lol.

Maybe, since it was during the Invasion of Pain arc where he declared that he had an ending worked out and was chugging full speed toward it, he didn't have a specific idea worked out for the giant cracking ball effect. He could have added it with the intention of inserting a new idea that he could develop later. I remember that he expressed regret that he didn't add more ideas he would be able to develop when he was first starting the comic, but he has more experience now, and knows how to add ideas, and the giant ball effect could be one of them. Would that still count as thinking that far ahead?
