Well, it is time to continue my humble review. In this thread I'll write about chaps 6-8, which are part of the little arc where Ren fights Yoh for the first time.
If ya want to check the previous arc, click and .
Chapter 6: Another shaman
Summary:In this chapter Ren states his purpose of taking Amidamaru's power for his own benefit. He's portrayed as a warlike, greedy, violent and arrogant character, just the opposite of Yoh's personality.
Ren first sends Manta to give Yoh a warning. Nonetheless Yoh and Ren's first meet occurs after Ren provokes a fight against a gang of guys because he considers them worthless. Seeing how Ren is willing to take one of the guys' life, Yoh stands against him.
Comment: Well, as I stated before, Ren is my favorite character. Why? Because not only he's very strong (even without Bason) but he's also one of these characters whose hatred has been rationalized. So even tho he's evidently wrong, it's interesting to read how he justifies his actions. Also, I find his weakness really relatable to myself. He's mentally inestable (really, that boy was really nuts xd), so he's very impulsive at times. That often leads him to make wrong or dumb decisions/actions, despite he's very sharp and clever.

This was just awesome!
Chapter 7:ShamanxShaman
Summary:Here we read for the very first time the "Shaman King" concept, which will be very important for the plot. Also, Ren's and Yoh's mentalities are shown (and ofc, they are completely different, quite the opposite). The battle begins!
Comment:This chapter was just very cool!

Well, antagonist often laughs at the protagonist beliefs...but this time Ren looked just mean and arrogant! Which is great, means the manga was well made -despite the drawing is still a bit rough in these first chaps >.>

When I first read this I was wha?! He's going to kill Yoh just like that? He's really nuts (I mean, since his first appearance he's willing to kill in order to get more power? ho! Really twisted character).

This one was of the few battles in which I could follow the action well...and Ren was not playing :0
Chapter 8: 100%acceptance!
Summary:After being severely injured by Ren's attack in 100% acceptance mode, Yoh finds him self in a very difficult and tricky situation. Not only Ren is stronger, but his abilities as a shaman are by far superior. Seeing him self trapped (probably Ren will kill him in no time) Yoh decides to let Amidamaru go. Everyone is shocked by his decision: Amidamaru and Manta because they know Yoh will be helpless against Ren. Ren because once Amidamaru had crossed to the other world, it'll be impossible to attain his power.
However, Amidamaru -as a samurai and a close friend of Yoh- cannot simply run away. Yoh is impressed: "I can't win against him" he says. But Amidamaru's reply is "I admit I have nothing to do in this world, but you, Yoh-dono- still have a life forward"...
Then Ren launches his final attack, as a desperate attempt to get Amidamaru's soul... However, as Yoh's and Amidamaru's feelings have merged, they have now accomplished the 100% acceptance mode as well, finally defeating Ren.
Comment: I really liked how Yoh saved his a$$ xd Not only was a very memorable moment, but also it's a bit curious -well, funny to me- that Ren told Yoh the exam's answer when explaining to Manta xd

Lol shaman king is a really old manga xd
Not really, it's from 1999 (it started that year) and finished in 2005. I was born in 1994, so I had still the chance to see it aired in my country. Also, Naruto manga started in 1999 as well.

@Yow yaw: -_- As I said, it is not really that old.
I loved the manga, that's why I'm making the threads...what do ya think a fanboy will reply regarding if it is worth reading or not?
-Edit: SK started in 1998..but ...so what?

Hmmm. Can't remember well enough to tell of any favourite moments, but it is always memorable when a character like Ren makes his appearance!
What I personally like about SK is that Ren didn't turn out like many other bad guys, that is, he turned into a good guy, though it happens in other series, I liked this one especially since Ren's character would be missed O_O
Good job~

lol I didn't remember well either. I'm re-reading it xd But, yes Ren was very memorable. Specially because Takei put a lot of work developing his personality and motives. I definitely would have missed him!
Well, it does happen the bad guy turning good in a good amount of shows, but I loved how Takei managed to keep Ren's >>charm<<, adding the fact even after he stopped doing all that crazy stuff, he still had a long road to walk....
...hehe-Danke!
