But Hidan did it without looking like a freak. Except for the black body part.

And hidan did it pretty easy as he doesn’t look old or anything.

I'd still say Hidan was a freak ... just in a different way.
Mugen is right too, we don't know what Hidan had to do. Not much is given on Jashinism.

Jashinism is a real religion based off of shared emotional and physical pain. It's not made up just for Naruto. He probably had to go through all sorts of trials of mental, emotional, and physical torture and how that affected him could have been as equally disturbing as it was with Orochimaru. They're both freaks in their own right, Orochimaru just happened to do his in the name of science and Hidan in the name of religion.
