A new virus is bringing the recently deceased back to life. How will you fare? Discuss your survival chances and opportunities based on:
Terrain What is the general landscape like around you? Is it mountainous, marshy, sandy, dry, wet, cold, frozen tundra, etc. In deserts, zombies would decay slower, whilst in marshes they will decay quite quickly. Cold and frozen locations may preserve the undead longer it may just freeze them in their tracks. If you live in an urban sprawl, you have more man made barricades to put between yourself and those trying to eat you, while at the same time there will be more of those trying to eat you. If you live near a river, or other bodies of water, a boat may be your best chance to get away. Zombies lack eye hand coordination, in mountainous terrains, you may just find yourself miles above a zombie's reach.
Population How dense is the population? Ten people per square kilometer? A hundred? A thousand? The denser the population, the more zombies you will encounter. However, in the same respect, the more survivors you will encounter as well. With more survivors, there will be more people whom will draw the zombie's attention from yourself. With other survivors you can work together, or they might just stab you in the back and take your possessions.
Equipment What will you have at your disposal? Are firearms readily available in your country or region? Even if they are, bullets wont last forever. However, a well made shovel just might. What about transportation? A cute little hybrid might get you further with less gas, but will be more prone to mechanical failure. Fortunately, a good old fashioned gas guzzling truck with a brush guard mounted directly to the frame will be capable of plowing through fields of the walking dead whilst requiring little maintenance. Communication can be just as vital to your survival. Handsets that operate on disposable batteries may prove invaluable to a small group traversing the wastelands of your metropolis.
Nourishment Face it, without food and water you will die. Zombies might be able to go years without a single bite to eat and continue moaning that call of insatiable hunger, unfortunately you cannot. You'll need clean water, because dirty water will give you dysentery which will end up killing you faster than dehydration. Or, you will need a means of purifying water. Whether it be iodine tablets or even trace amounts of bleach. Running nonstop from the decadent teeth of the groaning cadavers will require a hefty caloric intake. While it's true humans can go weeks without food and still walk for miles, a healthy diet will make those miles far less miserable. So, what do you have at your disposal? How easy is it to acquire those edible essentials, those delectable dishes, those savory steaks? How hard will it be to find a clean well to quench your parched lips with some potable water?
Entertainment Possibly a very often overlooked portion of survival. Why would you even think about entertainment after you've been running from man eating ... men? It's been days since you last rested, why bother? Because the human mind is incredibly fickle. Festering on thoughts of clamping teeth tearing flesh filets from your old pal Billy might demotivate you to the point where you lose the will to live. However, abstract as this idea may seem, keeping your mind on something entirely different may be quite quintessential to your survival. You will undoubtedly have to entertain your mind, whether it be from a small game with yourself, or talking with other survivors, to outright watching ... "videos." How will you cope with the atrocities that have devastated your old lifestyle. No more reality television to waste countless waking hours.
After thoroughly covering these sections, I'd like for you to rate your chances for survival on a scale of one to ten. One being "I'm zombie bait" to ten being "Look ma! I'm juggling zombie skulls while balancing on one leg." Be sure to rate each section as well, also from a one to ten. Remember, while you want to be the biggest baddest kid on Naruto Base, most of us will die. It'd be nice to know who I will find to be an easy snack, and who I should avoid.
