He didn't seem to know about the technique when Hiruzen used it on him, so my guess is because he was out of the leaf village at the time of the Obito/nine tails attack he probably didn't know.

no, this is you who does not get things. such a great ninja as Orochimaru would never make an assault on konoha (!) without preperation. He would 100% summon first and second beforehand to make sure he can do it if needed. the same goes for minato es well...

plus, the events that took place during 9 tail invasion, was known to many nins outside konoha, especially to oro )
