A question about the Mangekyō Sharingan

I just would like to know a little more about the Mangekyō Sharingan because I do not remember/completely understand what Tobi and Itachi said on the subject. Can certain Uchiha only unlock the Mangekyō? Or can any Uchiha do this? If the former is true, we only know of six people who unlocked (or could unlock) the MS. But if the latter is true, I'm guessing it really wouldn't be that special and important in the story

You can only unlock the Ms if you had a feeling of remorse for a person near to you or a near death experience. So in essence any Uchiha can unlock it after they obtain the 3 tomoe. To obtain EMS you need your brothers Eyes. And its all throughout the manga so there is no need to find sources.

So technically speaking you can't unlock the EMS if you don't have a brother?

-.- I feel like I've just stated the obvious ...

Also, just hit me - but it's interesting the correlation of the Uchihas we know, Madara and his brother ... Itachi and Sasuke ...
