A question about Madara and Nagato's Rinnegan's

Why when Nagato came back through edo, when he used the preta path's ability to absorb ninjutsu, with naruto's attack i believe, did he look more youthful?
Couldn't Madara just have done the same if he had the Rinnegan also?
