A Question about Konoha Politics?

I'm looking for someone with good insight on when a Hokage decides to step down.

For example, when did Hiruzen decide that Minato should be Hokage? And I know that the Feudal Lord makes the final decision but he wouldn't say no to the Hokage's recommendation.

I'm very curious about Naruto's case in particular (assuming he becomes the next Hokage).

He is obviously stronger than Lady Tsunade and she is older than any other Hokage was before they stepped down. Shes also the older than any of the other villages Kages' (except for Onoki, but we don't know if there is a special reason for him not to step down).

So:
Does she wait until she isn't suited for the job?
Will she decide she is more useful in another village helping develop their medical teams?
Do it straight after the War? (including the Sasuke business).
Wait until Naruto is 21?
Wait until he is married? (this is a sign of maturity in allot of countries)
Give him a special mission to test him?

Anyway, any insights/opinions you could share would be nice.

She is kinda dying right now, so... I dont think she is waiting till she isn't suited for the job anymore.. I dont think she is gonna live. And you are looking for major complications. It is simple, either he will become hokage, or kakashi will. It's not hard. Dont make a big deal out of it.

i think its bound to happen , but not after the war he's to young & i dont think tsunade will die either , but naruto wont have any problem being hokage ... since he's the strongest in the leaf ... maybe tsunade will step down & as we know kakashi doesn't WANT the tittle as hokage, so the only one left is naruto & tusande & kakashi will put him in that position ... i think all of this might happen if we get a time skip after the war & i think we will .

The feudal lord decides it only when the present Hokage is incapacitated or dead. The final decision is the Hokage's.

Hokage of Konoha must display an incredible sense of protectiveness and love for every single person of the village.

Hiruzen was a model Hokage.

Well first of all Hiruzen was older than her...by a lot XD! Sorry...just a bit nit-picky!

Anyhow...The Hokage steps down when a new shinobi appears who is both strong, smart, and holds the will of the people.


Naruto is both strong and he already has the will of the people in addition to Tsunade's own will. He has also matured and wisened up as noted throughout the Pain arc... his maturity over revenge is trully spectacular.

While the surpasing shinobi may not be STRONGER than the current Hokage (Hashirama passing off to Tobirama), it is passed to one who is basically the strongest in his or her generation (if you look at the Hokages...they are all probably within the top 3 in their generation: Tsunade and Danzo for example)...this is why things like wisdom and the will of the people also play factors.

Considering she is about to die...she will probably name Naruto Hokage to the other Kage...who will tell him when they arrive...

Something like this from Gaara as the other Kage stand by Naruto, "Now all the Kage stand together!" with Tsunade Clearly missing

That or something around the lines of, "Konoha's shinobi wait for the command of the 6th Hokage" (assuming Danzo wasn't OFFICIALLY a Hokage.

They could simply just say he is Hokage now too, and not be so indirect about her passing.

If anyone capable of doing everything without being appointed as a Kage, that person is Naruto. Kage or not, he's a way of Kage now.
