So I've just finished reading the manga and I was wondering if I missed something because I still didn't get an answer. When Hide finds Kaneki after the assault against Anteiku, immediately afterwards we see Arima fighting Kaneki underground while Hide is nowhere to be found. So what exactly happened in the between? When Hide took Kaneki underground, Arima stopped the both of them and told Hide to leave them alone?

but you should defo check out the second season of the anime it has a different route than the manga

little spoiler (you can read this it's not a real spoiler)

kaneki joins aogiri in the second season

huge spoiler (you shouldnt read if you want to watch 2nd season)

at the end kaneki carry hide corpse like an angel and lay him down before arima. the screen gets dark and you can hear quinque opening (from arima)

I know man, I've first watched the anime and afterwards the manga. The thing is that while the second season varies greatly from the manga, they chose to include the parts of utmost importance, albeit a bit changed. So, what I'm saying is that the anime gave the impression that Kaneki willingly surrendered in order to save a hurt Hide. If he was already dead, it wouldn't make that much sense (only morally). That being said, I wonder if Hide didn't die in the anime, if the same goes for the manga.

You may be right. It's just that Hide's death was supposed to be something but it was overshadowed by the loss of memory and death battle. If that's the case, I guess that when Kaneki remembers his memories, he'll go berserk. Still sad though...
