I think the better question is why did Hahirama think that he was in the same incident with Hiruzen...
He was there when Hiruzen was sealed. Well... He was sealed a little before, but he knew there was a barrier. Noone could get in or out... And since Hashirama sealed the 2 kages, he was definatally going to get sealed along with them... So why would they think that the fourth was with there?
