Well, as great as a mother's love can be, we live in an age where that's not always the case. Mothers can ditch their kids, abuse them, and simply walk away, and sometimes they do for the sake of drugs or boyfriends or whatever ~

It doesn't happen in mine either, but I've heard, seen and witnessed some stories in other societies.

Even a friend of mine, an Arab (which gives you a hint of how 'motherly' women are), had a sister who died when the sister was three. After that the mother gave birth to my friend and her brother, but she was basically a guest who cooks, cleans and looks after them.

Apparently after the loss of her sister, her mother gave up 'mothering' and til now(My friend is 17), she hasn't felt an real emotion from her mother. So mothers, the sad story is, do not ALWAYS love their children, be it for innate reasons or other factors ~
