Hagoromo also stated that his mother, Kaguya, had the third eye and cast Infinite Tsukuyomi on people.

So my question is, how would Kaguya possess the Third Eye and cast Infinite Tsukuyomi if the moon wasn't even created yet?

It says she used the third eye's power to control people, but it didn't say that she used the moon to do it. The moon is just a means to cast it all over the world, on every single human being at the same time. When Kaguya used it, she didn't cast it on every person. If there were a moon, maybe she would have. Therefore there might not have been a moon in her time or it was something she didn't think of.

I'm guessing she didn't use the moon for genjutsu. Her tsuki no mi was most likely on a smaller scale unlike Madara's.

My theory is that it was destroyed somehow. It's also my theory where Kaguya came from since she's based on a girl who came from the moon in a folktale.

My interpretation of that scan was that Hagoromo was only conveying how they were different.

The half moon represents Indra and was also shown alone

The full moon or sun represents Ashura and he had friends behind him


The actual battle that transpired looked different because I doubt Ashura would face Indra with an army.

it was even shown in the scan of the battle that Indra had different armor on.
