Obviously Rin was one of the main reasons why but it's not the only one. And his reasoning is much deeper than most childish fans think. After all his traumitization, he gave up on his reality and chose to make his main goal to create a new reality.

Kishi also wrote that Obito was the coolest guy so I guess that means Obito is better than Itachi, hashirama, and cooler than Obito, manga facts :lmao:? If Rin didn't die then there would be no war. She did die, Obito started a war, she is the reason, the end :lmao:.

It was Rin dude. Obito saying it wasn't is like when you ask a guy if they're over their ex and they're like YEAH I'M DONE WITH THAT *****

Anyway, Obito's nuances are a lot less interesting than, say, Pain's, as some people mentioned. He was already a revolutionary before Yahiko died, and he had things other to say than "The world sucks and your hope is lies."

Anyway

Obito's motivations:

You must be registered for see images

Now you can argue that he wasn't fully committed to doing all the crap he did just because of Rin's death, and yes, the crux of his character is that he suppressed the person he was because he couldn't accept the trauma of reality - which is, I mean, kind of interesting - it was mostly because Rin died that he became like that.

You must be registered for see images

Literally, "I will never acknowledge this."

And that's all he does for the rest of his life until Naruto uses talk no jutsu.

These idiots quoting obito about letting rin die acting all smart when the evidence given states "only" therefore she is a reason but not the only reason. Her death opened his eyes to how corrupt the world really is.

You guys got it all wrong. Rin was just one of the reason he did it. But there are many factor that support him to do it rather than he decided it just because of Rin.
It sound like this:
He nearly died and became hopeless.
Madara saved him and gave him a new hope to go back
Madara planned out that Rin will die by Kakashi or dying while Obito see it
Obito witnessed his best friend kill his most important person.
Obito become absolutely hopeless and clueless what he is gonna do for now when everything that was important to him is gone.
Obito got no purpose left in life to continue.
Obito was still far too young he was staying with one of the most cunning man in the world. 12-13 years old boy with nothin left stay with hundred years old witch.
.
.
I will just let you guys think about the consequence after that ...

You know, he lied a lot to himself xD
All he wanted was to see Rin alive again, cause no one else could fill the hole her death left in Bobito's heart. Simple as that.

Obito's worldview is also kind of lame because Kakashi, like, exists, and isn't nearly as screwed up in spite of going through many things that are comparably as bad (Suicided father, had to leave one teammate behind and killed the other, mentor dies, he dies, his student betrays his village and attempts to kill his other students, he's probably had to kill way more ninja in the line of duty for questionable reasons whereas Obito was mostly killing for selfish reasons...)

I mean, I get that Obito is a villain, and he's supposed to be flawed, but the audience is supposed to forgive him -
and think he's the coolest guy
- and his reasoning is just...so bad...

That part was just personal justification for his actions. Obito never really cared about the state of the world. All the world's condition did for Obito was confirm for him that this world that killed Rin was hell.

Ok this seems right. I know he was deeply motivated by Rin's death hence he was following the MT which was handed over to him by Madara but on this one I believe you are correct, he used Rin's death as a catalyst to generalize the phrase " that this world is hell". If Rin never died, he wouldn't even give a damn to what happened to Nagato.

I believe you. Obito drive was to avenge Rin's death. That one manga panel was him denying the reality. I think once Rin died he made it a habit to be in denial, that is until Naruto guided him on the right path.

Having ppl accept what I say so easy feels kinda weird  anyway you are pretty much right. Obito used how he felt about losing Rin to generalize the world as an evil place, and Madara handed Obito an easy way out. A way that he could see Rin again and for that Obito was willing to destroy anything in this world that he in his mind had denounced as a failure.

Obito started this war to end this rotten world that killed Rin, and seeing Rin in MT at the end of it all was his aspiration
