Sorry my mistake, it seems I have misread narutopedia's information. Ok even if you're right about him not having an actual contract, still my scenario could fit him being able to use sage mode once he became Kurama's jin. Based on what I said, I support that he didn't have what it takes while he was alive but with his chakra reserves grown now, hypothetically he could having gained tried to enter that state in the past.

Actually, chakra storage/amount doesn't play that much of a role in this. Jiraya had less chakra reserves then Naruto and he was still able to do it.

Senjutsu training is the ability to draw in the energy of nature and blend it with their own chakra. The amount of chakra someone has doesn't play a key role in this, just the ability to maintain balance between your own chakra and the natural energy that you're gathering from around you. Jiraya didn't have Kurama or the amount of chakra that Naruto has and was able to perform SM so that shouldn't be a reason why Minato couldn't have used it either. It all comes down to bad writing and a huge ass-pull.

The only evidence we have about his "supposed" training in Senjutsu is the picture that is provided of Naruto with Jiraya and Minato behind him during the Pain battle. Other than that, we have no real foreshadowing that he actually trained the way Naruto did. All we know is that he was trained by Jiraya as a student (along with 2 other students) much like Naruto did.

What you said about natural enregy is more important than you think. I don't say that Minato was able to do it only because of Kurama's chakra alone, but because his own chakra reserves had increased, by being a jin he developed the potential of gathering more chakra. Jiraya could use sage mode because he had big chakra reserves on his own, he had the potential to develop them. That's what I'm stating at the beggining abotu Kakashi's comment towards Naruto. You answered as if I said that you must have chakra reserves similar to those of Naruto while I only talked about the potential of having just bigger chakra reserves.

No, you misunderstood, I don't say that Minato gathered more charka as if it's natural energy. Back when Kakashi was training naruto to learn rasenshuken, he told him that his chara reserves were 4 times bigger than his own. Now, the reason for him having so much more chakra than him was because naruto, apart from being a half uzumaki, he had also Kurama inside of him for 16 years. That granted him the ability to grow his chakra reserves. A proof of that is that then Kakashi told Naruto that with Kurama's help his chakra would be 1000 times more than his own. The fact that he differed naruto's chakra and naruto's cahkra while he has control over Kurama proves that Kakashi when he was talking about 4x chakra, he was talking about Naruto's chakra alone, without Kurama's adn that's what I suggested in happened in Minato's case.
