You could say Kakashi's actions started the whole war, but in reality the reason behind her being killed is what caused it. It's obvous Madara wanted Obitio to see her death happen but nothing is fully clear.

If none of that happened, Madara would have probably found someone else willing to follow his plans.

Nagato would have died and that would have been the end of this. Obito would have rejoined his friends, but what would have happened during the massacre? Minato would still be alive, so he might have stopped it, as he said he would not wnat to kill the Uchiha. Minato did not acknowledge Danzo, Hiruzen did...SO Uchiha massacre probably wouldn't have happened, Itachi wouldn't go rogue, Sasuke wouldn't turn evil, and Naruto wouldn't be a jinchuuriki. He'd just be a knucklehead with no hope of becoming a chuunin. All because of Kakashi
