A few questions regarding Toriko

I'm thinking about starting the toriko anime and then go to the manga but I heard some not so great thing's about the toriko anime. What is it about the toriko anime that made it unfavourable by a lot of people? Also, what's the general difference between the anime and manga? Is there a lot of filler context and etc?

The anime does not give Toriko the justice it deserves. The blood, gore, and core action isn't there. They insert some random ass main character. Also, the anime doesn't really follow the manga. Do yourself a favor and just read the manga.
